Well yeah. This is a topic on how a lot of classic games just haven't aged well at all. For instance, I just tried playing Nethack. Now, I know it's supposedly one of the greatest games ever made due to it's sheer size, scope and inovative gameplay for the time, but I just quit after 5 minutes.
I know it came out in 1985, still couldn't play, even the graphical version.
And I know lots of PS1 games are now considered "ugly as shit", though they may still be loads of fun.
In addition to the above, what older/classic games would you like to see remade?

Tenchu 1 and 2.
Final fantasy 7.
8 & 9 I can stand but 7....I'm sad I know. I came late to the series though.
That's all I got. I don't play many old games.

(PSN: Morninglord) (Steam: Morninglord) (WiiU: Morninglord22) I like to record and toss up a lot of random gaming videos here.
Has anybody ever played Corn Cob 3D? It was on a school computer back in 98 and I just couldnt stomach the ugly block visuals. It was some kind of weird ass bi-plane game.

Yeah, I've been playing 7 again lately, and I've noticed the startling resemblance to lego people.
Shadow of the empires - The graphics aren't so bad to impede enjoyment totally, but the controls make it unplayable
Funny, I played that around a year or two ago, and I still loved it.
I think I'm immune to the age of games, since I still enjoy the old-school stuff. If I liked it then, odds are, I'll still like it now.
The games on the Genesis Collection sure seem to have aged well, so I don't think a few pixelated PS1 titles would bother me at all.
I don't have a problem with many 2d games. Pretty much nes/snes ear stuff is all good (or at least as good as it was when it came out) but early 3d stuff, mostly PS1/Saturn/some early n64/pc stuff of similar age just doesnt sit well with me, either the grapihcs are just bad to the point where I struggle to understand whats going on, or for 90% of stuff, there is a more modern equivalent I will get more enjoyment out of, ie choosing RE4 over RE1, or F-zero GX over F-zero X.

Holy crap. I was trying to remember this old flight sim a couple days ago I used to play and couldn't remember the name of it. Lo and behold, it's Corncob 3D. Yeah, that's old school, man. :P But there are better flight sims.

Yeah stuff like Secret of Mana and Final Fantasy IV hold up great, but you throw a Playstation game like FFVII at me or god forbid Xenogears(which may I note is my favourite RPG ever. My eyes DO adjust to the graphics, but it takes awhile each time I play). I tried playing Ocarina of Time the other day and all four of us on the couch went "god, this used to look AMAZING, what happened".
I've been meaning to go back and replay Crash Bandicoot, speaking of old graphics.
Very few 3d games age well. Mario 64 I think aged well but off the top of my head I can't think of any others. Where as on the 2d side of things anything NES and up still looks fine IMO. Maybe thanks to the VC and the DS we will see a surge of new 2d titles? (I don't just mean more Castlevania though I do hope they keep up the trend on the DS those are a lot of fun)

But Starfox 64 is still > everything.
that bit there, pretty much excludes 1st/2nd party stuff for me.

My main issue is the appallingly pixellated backdrops. I can handle low-res, low-polygon-count models, but the pixellated backdrops get me every time. They tried to cram too much detail in there, so it looks like an impressionist painting on a newer TV.

Doesn't look so hot on the pc either. There's no option to go higher than 800 x 600.

Try playing the original Battle Arena Toshinden now...it's ugly. The PS1 did not age well, but in it's defense, those games looked fucking sweet to me back then.
I'd love to see Chrono Trigger given an updated image. The game looks great already, but a remake (if kept faithful) could bring the awesomeness of that game to a new generation of gamers.
Also, I wouldn't mind seeing new versions of the Freespace games.

See, I don't get this. I thought PS1 graphics were shit back then too.
The Oddworld games looked pretty cool though.
I still go back and play Metal Gear Solid and Silent Hill now and then. The appearance of PS1 graphics doesn't bother so much as Silent Hill's lack of 60hz mode. Maybe I should try grabbing an NTSC version, then I could finally see those knife-wielding children the PAL version cut out...

A lot of people around here seem to love Blast Corps, but...I find it practically unplayable nowadays.
It's not really the graphics. It's the camera that doesn't allow you to see for shit and the controls that base themselves on said camera.
In terms of the actual visuals, Bushido Blade (either of them) is a game I would hate to try and go back to. They were so fun, but even then, those pixellated textures and the camera's tendency to zoom and pan could get painful.
They are probably close to actual resolution, so just blow them up to see a bigger image.
The MGS one is the actual resolution. I think they had to do that to make up for some other technical aspects that they were pushing. The lighting looks pretty good there...I honestly don't remember if the game actually had any dynamic lighting, or if the lighting was just a series of tricks by painting light to the textures.

MGS's resolution was 320x240 because 240p was pretty much all that the Playstation could push out.
Really, I'm starting to think Sega was right in thinking that 3D could have waited another generation.
Talking about the PS1, one of my favorite RPG-ish games was Vagrant Story. I still haven't found a game with such a neat story and I was always impressed with the weapons system. But I'll be damned if every time I try to go back and play it, I get 10 minutes in before the graphics become too much for me. Personally, I blame the PS1, just because I can.
Glad to see someone mentioned Chrono Trigger though, because I was going to use it as an example of how old a game can get yet still look good. Then again, I find a lot of Nintendo games of that generation aged pretty well.

nintendo games in general tend to have aged fantastically. Apart from the 1st starfox, they didn't really dabble in early 3d, up until mario64, when they invented how to make a good 3d platformer.

Even when they did try 3D though, they did it pretty well. I haven't played the first Starfox that recently, but I bet it doesn't look that bad. Same goes with that...other game. You know, the one where you could drive a 18-wheeler, a motorcycle, a small coupe car and other stuff? It was 3D...I forget the bloody name. But I bet it's still aged better than a lot of other "3D" games out from that era.
Corncob was my first 3d game ever, and it ran beautifully on my 1MB ram, 17Mhz computer. Guns, cannons, rockets, bombs, remote controlled plane, and planting charges on foot FTW.

They did add lots of eyecandy to FS2.
and I think that there's a TC for playing FS1 with the enhanced FS2 engine.
I still think MGS looks good. Its the envirenments that really keep it in shape. The clever fake lighting done with textures etc. I seem to remember the actual game world looking really hot, at the expense of any characters in the game having eyes. Or faces.

Corncob! Man, that game rocked.
Edit: Here is one from the first Tomb Raider.
