Hello everyone, I am breastfeeding my two month old and have noticed a significant reduction in my milk production. I am taking Mother's Milk Tea to help with the lactaction but am unsure of how long before I will start to see results. If any of you mothers out there or herbalists for that matter have any ideas or suggestions I am totally open to them. Thanks!

I'd say call your doctor before doing anything that could affect your milk production and your baby's health.

Does your baby appear hungry or unable to satisfy itself with the amount of milk you are producing?

Is your diet otherwise healthy? Well-balanced without tons of carbs? Eating enough protein?

Terra seems to be getting enough I guess. Sometimes I have to offer both sides, but maybe that is normal with a growing child to want to eat more. But the actual fullness of my breasts have changed, now I know after a while my body regulates how much milk to produce I suppose I am just being paranoid. I am taking the herbal tea just to be on the safe side, I know formula is perfectly fine for children but I don't want to use it just yet.

As far as my diet is concerned, I'm not a vegitarian i or anything but I think compared to the typical Am. diet I eat pretty healthy. I watch portion sizes and try to eat a lot of veggies and fruit. I am still taking my pre-natals vitamins and will continue to do so until the prescription runs out.

Lactating is a supply and demand business so the best recommendation is to keep doing it. Sometimes, when your breasts start to soften up after the "porn star" stage, it feels like you've got less milk. But that's not always the case. It also helps if between feedings you pump - again, the more you use them, the more they'll make. The tea is great and should help you build the supply, but also great because you are drinking extra fluids because of it. Stay well hydrated.
Also, maybe you're worried about decreased milk because the baby seems hungry all the time and you're constantly feeding? If thats the case, your little one is probably going through a growth spurt and is trying to up the amount of milk you make by feeding more often. Your supply will grow and the feedings will go back to longer intervals.
And try not to get too stressed out about it, that will just hinder the proccess.
Good luck, and congratulations on your sweet one.

If you haven't already, I'd suggest visiting the La Leche League website: http://www.llli.org/

Regarding the tea, my wife seemed to think she got positive results when using it, but everybody is different.

Speaking from experience, the La Leche League is a fantastic resource. Call your local chapter, and there will be plenty of people to help you over the phone or in-person.

Sleep is also a HUGE factor - if you aren't getting enough rest, your milk supply can be severely affected.

Thats fine and all, but please don't get yourself into a situation where you feel bad for using formula.

Eh, this is the wrong forum for this comment, but most main stream formula are like corn syrup milk shakes.

Then again, breastmilk is on the sweet side.

Surely you don't mean nutritionally which is the important part.

Thanks for bringing that up b/c I was going to ask about formula as well. I guess when any woman has a child companies some how get a hold of your personal information and send you things. Well...I recieved some formula, I think its Enfamil and have given it to her a few times. Man it tastes completely different than breastmilk, its so grose! But...that brings up a question that I had, is there a formula on the market today that is really good for infants or are they all about the same? I know there are a few different brands and priceranges (that doesn't matter to me though) but is there one in particular thats better than the other?

Some babies prefer one over another, but then next time you shop sans baby (good luck getting that) take a look at ingredients and nutritional value on one to another. Target is damn near the same makeup as Enfamil.
Course the big thing now is the more DHA the better (and more expensive).

And yes, formula tastes funky as hell. I don't get it.
