I have the game Star Trek Armada that plays through a 3ed party software in order to play online called gameranger (gameranger.com). Anyway, it was working ok on my last computer and got a new one. Reinstalled the game and gameranger on my pc and it no longer works. Gameranger tricks the game into thinking that it is on a LAN connection but uses an internet connection. It opens the game and goes to the LAN screen but does not join the game.
My firewall allows the game and gameranger through it.
I have XP, SP3, Symantec Antivirus, and Spybot S&D.
If all that checks out then its probably gameranger. You say its on a new PC and gameranger, honestly, looks kinda iffy. Check out its settings. If it is auto-detecting a LAN disconnect your PC from any internal networks you may have (try just blocking file and printer sharing in windows firewall to start). Otherwise I wouldnt know anything about gameranger itself. Their forums would be a good bet, if they have any.
