My internet is suddenly really bad.

I have verizon DSL, and it was never that great to begin with. It's wireless but the modem is on my desk, I share a connection with my sister and though she does download things it was never much of a huge problem.

I like to play a lot of TF2. Usually on the PA servers I get around 100 or so ping. I'm used to playing like this so its not much of a problem. It was like this two years ago when I first started playing and it's always been like that.

I do share my connection with my sister but normally when I notice my ping begin to spike I ask if she's downloading anything. Lately though my ping would be around 400 and she would just be watching videos on youtube or something. Tonight however was the last straw, it sat around 600 for a good chunk of the night, spiking down to normal levels and jumping as high as 700.

I live in western Washington. I'm checking out pingtest.net as I type this out. A server in Bellingham, maybe 75 miles north of me is telling me I've got 337. Atlanta, GA tells me 543. Auckland, NZ gives me 706.

What the hell is going on here? D:

EDIT: It's my dad's account, so if there's something wrong with my internet I need to tell him.
I just have no idea what I should be asking.

I hate to ask the obvious first, but have you checked for spyware/viruses?

edit: In terms of actual possibilities, do you have a usage cap? Is it possible your traffic is routed through a different server now? That could dramatically cut your speeds.

I haven't checked in a while but I don't download a lot of things myself, I'll run a check tonight while I sleep.

I'll question my dad if there is a usage cap as well. I should specify that in the OP I'm not the one paying for internet, its my dad's account.
