So, I just got my monitor from home(Dell IN1910N) and I want only it to display when it is plugged into my laptop(Dell Latitude D620). My ideal setup would be to use a usb keyboard so I could that I could close the laptop entirely.
Unfortunately, I have to manually reset this setup every time I close the laptop and its getting troublesome. Is there any way I can set it permanently so that I can just have the external monitor be on and have the laptop closed and use a usb keyboard and mouse?
that's usually a laptop setting, not an XP setting... on Thinkpads, it's changed by the Function ("Fn") + F7 key combination, and it's similar on other laptops i've worked on
Something you may want to be careful with: lots of laptops (like mine!) use the keyboard to help vent heat. They warm significantly if they're on and the lid is closed. You probably won't damage components, but it might cause things to throttle down.
Other than that, yeah, most laptops (like mine!) have a key that will swap the primary display to the video out, like illig is indicating. Is that pretty much all you need to happen?
