Laptop Network Card AWOL

I have a Dell Inspiron 600m laptop, and the network card just randomly disappeared from view the other day. I was in the middle of a skype call when I suddenly lost my internet connection. Upon further investigation, I found that my wired internet connection wasn't showing up in the "my network connections" window, and the card had disappeared from the device manager. I did a "scan for new hardware," and that fixed it.

A day later, it happened again but the scan didn't turn the card up again. When I look at the back of the computer, its lights are still blinking so I don't think it's a faulty connection to the mobo. I've tried removing the related driver and reinstalling it, with no luck.

I saw a possible cause for it online: sometimes when it's in battery mode and reaches a certain point it turns off the card, but I don't think I had that enabled and I can't find the option to turn that on/off anywhere, so I'm not sure this is the culprit.

I still have a wireless card, but my wired connection is much faster and I'd rather use that over the wireless.

Any ideas as to how I can fix this? Any help would be much appreciated.
