I'm doing research into Native Americans being decimated by diseases, particularly the idea that infected blankets and clothing were used against them. I've only be researching a little while, but I haven't been able to find books that are clear on the matter (it seems to be quite a contentious subject) and most the internet sources I've found aren't academically reliable or well cited. If anyone here's a history buff, or knows a history buff, I'd really enjoy some clarification.

And no, this isn't for a homework assignment (I've already finished my BA), this is just for my own curiosity, so no comments of 'do your own homework' will be needed. :P

Thank you in advance.

You've probably already seen this but...

Interestingly, I went to UMASS Amherst and my friends and I would occasionally talk about how the town was named after the guy who invented biological warfare.

However, I took a Native American class and I don't think they ever talked about it, at least not that I can remember. So, buh?

    Thank you in advance.

My sociology professor just spoke about this last Friday.

According to him, there are no official, reputable sources saying that it happened.

EDIT: To be more specific, he was talking about the rumors against the American government doing this.

But what about the Native American oral histories and personal diaries?

They're another thing I'd like to be able to access.

Also, are there any books which talk about this in any kind of detail?
