Dealing with Vertigo

I'm having some serious ear issues, one symptom of said issue is a constant state of mild vertigo. If I'm standing still, or sitting down, all is fine and dandy, but when I'm walking around, my state of equilibrium feels like I'm jogging. This has become enough of a problem that it's affecting my work, to the point where either the vertigo settles the fuck down, or I start looking for a new desk job.

Yes, I'm seeing a doctor, though they're primarily focused on the other issues; issues which aren't affecting my ability to work. They've recommended Antivert, which I haven't yet been able to find. While I'm looking for it though, I was wondering if anybody else here was dealing/had dealt with chronic vertigo like this, and if they'd found any medication that worked on the actual sense of vertigo. All the meds I've looked at only make claims about motion sickness, but my vertigo doesn't cause motion sickness, except for one time when it was at it's peak.

Do you have a diagnosis? That sounds an awful lot like Meniere's Disease.

I haven't dealt with anything that severe. I did some roofing for a friend and couldn't stop my legs from shaking when we got to the garage section. Good times.

I thought this thread was going to be about the OP being forced to listen to U2, thank god that's not the case.

A friend of mine had (has) vertigo, she was given anti-biotics by the doctor so I don't know what your doc is doing.

If you can't find over the counter anti-dizziness/nausea medicine your doctor should be able to prescribe something. I had persistent vertigo for about a month or a month and a half a few years back and had some prescription (can't remember the name, unfortunately) which mostly eliminated the dizziness at the cost of a little drowsiness.

Sipex: Vertigo has a number of different possible causes. Your friend probably had a simple inner ear infection or something like that.

It's not Meniere's, though I have discussed that with my doctor. With Meniere's, vertigo attacks tend to be sudden and dramatic, but rarely last more than a few hours up to a day. I've had this mild vertigo for about six weeks now.

What my current diagnosis is called is Sudden Sensorineural Hearing Loss, which can be caused by about a lot of different things including viruses, potasium/sodium damage, and polyps on the auditory nerve. My symptoms are severe hearing loss in my right ear, a congested feeling in my ears, tinnitus in my right ear, and the nearly constant vertigo I've mentioned. I've been treated with Sudafed for the congested feelings in my ears, then antibiotics, neither of which worked. I'm currently waiting to schedule an MRI so we can take a look inside my head and see if we can determine what could be causing this.

So, as you can see, the underlying problem is currently being taken care of. The problem with the vertigo, is my employers are concerned about their liability should I fall at work from the vertigo, and have drastically cut back my hours until the vertigo is gone. My doctor is very confident the vertigo and the congestion will fade away, but he says it could take weeks or even months, and I can't afford to live on 18 hours a week for the next several months.
