So I was watching Big Bang Theory tonight on my Tivo, and Wil Wheaton was guest starring. In it he enters a CCG tourney at a local comic shop. His 1st scene in the episode he is sorta in the corner of the screen and you can only see him from the upper chest and up... but what is this I see? A little red ball on his shirt descending down into something gray?
HE WAS TOTALLY ROCKING A FRUIT FUCKER T-SHIRT!!!!!!!!!! I recognized it instantly haha!

so big bang theory show? people instantly shit on this in chat so I have to post in here.
I only watched the first season and some of the second but I like the show, as sitcoms go. obviously I don't make a point to keep up with it, but for a 22 minute show there are enough laughs, and they don't condescend to the nerd target group, they seem to have people who work the humor in well.
anyway, I like it too, and it's great that the Fruit Fucker made his network TV premier.
I don't like the premise and the plot devices, but I like the actors and some of the stuff that makes it in. I like it with 'but's attached.

that's a fair description. The actors (John Galecki, and the propensity for Roseanne gust stars) are what made me a big enough fan that I'll post in a thread like this unto forever.
I like it a lot. It's not original at all, but the material is stuff that means something to me. Jokes about Spock are much better for me than jokes about Pottery Barn or whatever.
Why do people dislike it, other than it's not edgy and isn't Arrested Development etc?
I've only seen it a few times, but it seems to rely way way too heavily on 'LOL SMART PEOPLE ARE SOCIALLY AWKWARD' for laughs, which gets really old really quick.
It mostly depends if you think it's a show mocking nerds or laughing with nerds.

This is my impression as well. Well, socially awkward and "It's funny! His hobbies are different from my hobbies!"

This is what I got from it the couple of times I tried to watch it.

There are 2 guys on community that make better geeks.
It seems very obviously laughing with nerds. The main characters are nerds. They are losers, sure, but the main characters in any sitcom are. There's no 'cool people looking down on nerds' POV. The woman likes 'em fine.
People are weirdly sensitive, unless 'nerds often have poor social skills' is contested now? I'm a nerd, and seems true enough to me.

Two? Abed, obviously.

Sheldon buys lots of different presents and then gets given a napkin signed by Leonard Nimoy was priceless. I wanted to tell everyone the joke, but no-one in my real life is geeky enough to get the jokes.

My dislike is less from sensitivity and more from the fact that the 'nerds often have poor social skills' premise is cringingly dated.
I don't think so. Nerds still don't often have great social skills.
They do have some nerds with good social skills. Raj is pretty good with women unless it's being played for a laugh, and there was that physicist who banged Penny in S1 (?) and
The comic book store clerk is pretty normal, actually.

I like it cause Penny wears low cut shirts and she has great tits. Is that a bad reason to like a TV show?
She also has pretty good timing, comedy wise.
EDIT: Also by this standard, you have to watch Friday Night Lights and Chuck. Though those are also the two best shows on network TV.

I recently started watching the show, going through season 1 and 2 in about a week's time. It's not the greatest show in the world, but it's amusing and makes me laugh consistently, which is far more than 99% of sitcoms these days can manage.
It was a little off-putting at the beginning with the "LOL, nerds are funny!" but the more I watched it, the more I realized it's written by nerds, and more often than not, they're laughing with them, not at them.

I think it got better about it as it went on. I was turned off the pilot because I thought it was laughing at nerds, Alan Sepinwall recommended the second season and I usually have similar taste to him. It had gotten much better.

I do watch Chuck. However, I refuse to watch Friday Night Lights because I hate sports and everything having to do with them. Shows about football players rate very high on my "things I don't give a shit about" list.

The Conan MMO arc should have stayed the anger of the neckbeards.

It's not really about football.

The show is fine. It just appears that geeks are hyper-sensative and over-reactionary... gee, who knew...

I've tried watching it and I just can't stand the Niles-Crane-on-speed guy. His acting is sooo fucking over the top it's unbearable.
I can't really stand sitcoms in general, with the laughtracks and the badness so I'm not saying it's worse than any of the other ones. How I Met Your Mother is the only one I like.

That's it in a nutshell. The first season is hit or miss. Season 2 is gold though and this current season is great. My only compliant is that I have to sit through Jenna Elfman's What's Scientology I'm a flighty ditz ha ha show and Charlie Sheen's Alimony support paycheck to watch it.
Also tonights episode is better than anything because some lawyer had to ask for Clearanceon the T-shirt and that means there are legal documents with the word fucker on them.

You hate Sheldon
No, I don't like the characters either. The premise is fine, and I'm not sensitive over the nerd/geek thing. Any time I've tried to watch the show they've either come off as painfully awkward or obnoxious. I can't relate to them either, they're just too extreme examples of the nerd/geek archetype. Maybe if they toned it down it would be tolerable.
I watch it for Penny's boobs and also in the hopes that someone will finally shoot Sheldon in the face. Dude is like all the worst parts of Rainman + Comic Book Guy.

That's the point. He's an insufferable jackass who doesn't understand how people work. Sheldon is the Internet.
Also we've had two Sheldon gets his episodes in as many weeks.
Last Week Raj proved him wrong. This week he got Wheatoned.
I mean even before that they've shown Sheldon humiliated or put down numerous times.
I could understand it if he never got his comeuppance but he does quite often.

I'm a physics major, I have to deal with socially awkward nerds on a nearly daily basis. It's definitely one of the more accurate stereotypes, but it's way overused and just not funny.

No, I actually want someone to shoot him in the face. Preferably a topless Penny, after she kills whoever thought Accidentally on Purpose was something that should be on TV. Losing a card game because he's randomly nice isn't the kind of comeuppance that balances the ledger given how awful he is to everyone all the time. Everyone he interacts with not sicking a pack of starving hyenas on him is less believable than Leonard bagging Penny.

Only, it is funny. Every single sitcom is based on stereotypes. Even everyones precious Arrested Development was absolutely FULL of stereotypes.
I can understand not liking the first season of this show, it was pretty hit and miss, but seriously, anyone crying "stereotype" while enjoying ANYTIHNG on television is just a hypocrite.
