so dudes and dudettes, Windows 7 is officially out today.

the minimum requirements for Windows 7 are supposedly a lot less severe than Vista. the 32-bit version will run with only a 1Ghz processor and 1GB of RAM. people keep saying Win7 will actually run on netbooks...

Windows 7 doesn't seem to focus on gaming at all, either. while Vista sucked for various reasons, it was at least a decent gaming OS, playing a ton of things especially under compatibility mode. Windows 7 seems to be a lot less flexible from what i've read...but i could be mistaken.

so folks, Windows 7, yay or nay?

    Windows 7 yaaaaaay

    Been running it for about two weeks now. Really great. I love it. Plays TF2 and SFIV just fine, so I don't have any complaints. I'm not a heavy PC gamer, though.

    I hear seven is better for gaming. runs older games better and it'll use DX11 which will do what DX10 was actually supposed to.

    also I hear windows 7 comes with built in touch screen support, if anyone has a fancy monitor that does that

    Been using the RC since it came out. It's ok. Some annoying little things though, like it doesn't save window positions.. never could figure out why they removed that feature..

    I didn't do anything with the RC but through work I was able to get a full copy of 7 a few days ago. Took about an hour to upgrade from Vista to 7. Everything seems to be moving faster.

    Also, all the colors in my taskbar are really mesmerizing.

    i know Vista has an option where you can turn on and off window position memory...maybe 7 has the same thing?

    probably because when i worked for MS a good 10% of their calls were people managing to get their windows in positions they couldn't reach anymore and needing it reset. becuase.. yes they were that retarded.

    The bossest thing about Windows 7 so far:

    Vista decided to plain not boot, so I just installed Windows 7 over it. Instead of formatting the drive, it simply moved all of my old files into a folder called Windows.old, so I didn't lose everything!

    Ninja edit: That's going from Vista Home Premium x64 to Windows 7 Professional x64.

    I'm going from Vista Ultimate 64 to Windows 7 Home, so I have to do the Custom install, which means backing up a bunch of stuff, and essentially reinstalling stuff like a clean install.

    yes. in fact you need to have either XP or Vista installed on your computer for the Upgrade version to even install. you can still do a clean installation of 7, but the installer needs to see an old installation of XP or Vista for the upgrade to even run.
