A small fee showed up for the first time today on my Comcast bill. It's called a Service Protection Plan. For me, it's listed under Comcast Cable Television - which I don't have.
I'm planning on giving them a call (or doing that online chat thing) on Monday. In preparation for contacting them, I did a little search and found people having a similar fee added, but it was always related to a service they already had. From those reviews, it seems like a weird and/or not needed fee.
From Comcast's site...
What is the Service Protection Program with Comcast Digital Cable?
Our Service Protection Program covers in-home visits for the diagnosis of video or data reception problems and the repair of in-home wiring. You may subscribe to this Service Protection Program for a minimum monthly fee. If you choose to waive this optional service protection, you will be assessed a service charge for any repair of reception problems that are not caused by Comcast-owned equipment. Contact Comcast Customer Service for more details on the Service Protection Program.
I never, to my knowledge, subscribed to this. Has anyone run into something like this before? Or just experienced something similar with Comcast?
I don't work for Comcast, but the cable company I do work for has something that sounds similar. It's a small monthly charge but it covers the ($40!) charge if a tech has to be sent out. It should not have been added without your permission and if you don't think you will need it, cancel it and try to find out why it was added.
EDIT: Why wait until Monday? Call 'em now, or during the day tomorrow.
