Trying out a Dell 1907 Ultrasharp, plugged into my laptop via VGA. I can switch to the display no problem (Fn +F12), but the picture is pretty bad.
It's quite blurry, and there's some 'ghosting' (I'm not really sure what to call it) with any on-screen images; everything has faint lines trailing to the right (Hard to explain, but a box appears roughly as so: []|||, with the lines getting fainter). The laptop runs XP, with a Radeon Mobility x700 gpu (so basically it's old).
I tried it on another laptop, running Vista, and the image is much crisper and clearer, although the 'ghosting' is still evident.
I understand that some of the issues may be down to VGA, and that a DVI connection would correct those, but I'm unsure as to why the image is significantly worse on the XP machine than the Vista one. Is it just hardware related?
Probably. I did the same thing when I bought the monitor for my new gaming rig and it arrived before everything else. The picture when connected to my laptop was just atrocious, but it's crystal clear on my desktop.

quick google shows 1280 x 1024 / 75 Hz for a 1907, but you should double check that
