Just because I think it should be mentioned, here is Larson having his way with Press Your Luck (for reference, $10,000 is considered a good day on PYL):
It's so obvious that he knows he's milking the system.
However one time events like this probably help more than they hurt, they generate a ton of buzz saying that you can see or maybe yourself win a ton of money at one time.
Didn't Kevin Mitnick get banned from casinos for basically doing the same thing? They had looked at the patents of the slot machines and figured out a timing system to get the machines to pay out. They only got caught when one of his associates started looking at his watch dealie too frequently or something.
I just went from clueless to stoked in the span of two minutes. It's like From Software is single-handedly selling me on a PS3.
That looks so awesome. I want a PS3 so badly now. Christmas is coming...
My most anticipated game is Shiren the Wanderer Wii, though. Even more than Borderlands (still waiting for the PC release!) and L4D2 and NSMB Wii, Shiren is the one game I am dying to play. The DS one is one of my favourite games ever, and I know the Wii version will be epic.
So is hoping for Shiren 2 to come over here pretty much a lost cause at this point? Because I'd rather play Shiren on my DS.
Edit: Never mind, I just realized that the Shiren that we got over here is the second one. So uh... go 3, I guess?
There is a second (third?) Shiren on DS, but it is highly unlikely that it is coming out here since the first one didn't sell. But maybe if the Wii one does better, Atlus will bring the DS one over as well? I'd rather play it on DS as well, but I'm just happy we're getting another. There is an unfinished fan translation of Shiren DS 2 floating around, I'm very tempted to import and give it a shot.
1) Each enemy now has an attribute (for example, paralyze or poison). It's hard to predict exactly what each type of enemy can do to you now.
2) If any one of your allies die, it's game over.
3) Too much emphasis on story (who plays Shiren for story?!)
4) Weapons count more for damage output than your stats.
5) Difficulty has been lowered, the three characters are all playable.
6) Random elements have been toned down.
7) Viewpoint makes it difficult to control Shiren.
I'd temper my expectations for this game.
EDIT: The english version of Shiren IS Shiren 1. It's just that Shiren was originally marketed as Mysterious Dungeon 2, as it is a sequel to Mysterious Dungeon, a very similar game starring Torneko (Taloon) from Dragon Quest IV. Shiren and Torneko both became franchises, while the Mysterious Dungeon IP became a huge breadwinner for Chunsoft.
God the epilogue of that dude is fucking depressing.
Shit. At least he rocked the shit out of a game show before his life went in the crapper.
Well, the cancer, yeah, but the robbery was kind of his own fault. What happened was, there was this radio contest asking for a dollar bill with a certain serial number. Larson, doing what comes naturally, went and got as many $1 bills out of the bank as he could and started looking and press-ganged the missus into helping out.
The robbery was pretty much someone scooping up the stacks and stacks of clearly-visible, unprotected $1 bills all over the house, many of which were conveniently in sacks already, while nobody was home.
You can guess how a divorce might have possibly happened at some point.
To drag it back to topic, dammit 3D Dot Heroes. You'd be perfect for the Wii.

I have a new soccer blog The Minnow Tank. Reading it psychically kicks Sepp Blatter in the bean bag.
Not to, uh, dampen the enthusiasm or anything but no-one's actually picked 3D Dot Game Heroes up outside of Japan, have they? I know Atlus and Xseed are supposed to be fighting over it, but I still haven't seen any official announcement. It's almost out in Japan, but it'll be a lot longer getting to the West, I would imagine.
And yes, I'm pretty much guessing Atlus' goodwill towards Shiren is going to run out once the Wii version sells next to nothing as well. Or until they make a lot of money off something else, then figure they can afford to take a big financial hit again boosting their nerd cred a little more.

<AtlusParker> Sorry I'm playing Pokemon and vomiting at the same time so I'm not following the conversation in a linear fashion.

Atlus are no stranger to publishing games that they know have niche interests. They do low print runs, so they don't really have much to lose. They'll be fine.
Does Sakura Wars V/So Long My love count? Because that game's getting remarkably low hype for a series that's been around for more than a decade having its US debut.
That would presumably be because relatively speaking, no-one outside Japan cares. I'll be astonished if it does anywhere near Persona numbers or anything like that. I love 1 through 4 to pieces, but they're not really great games - they're absolutely piss-easy, and firmly geared towards the obsessive-compulsive who doesn't care about a challenge.
Wish I could play my copy of 5. I spent a fortune on it and yet it's one of the few PS2 games that don't work with SwapMagic...
And I know Atlus are well aware what business they're in and plan accordingly, but even if failures don't hurt them that much, I'm guessing they can't afford to keep losing money.

So "3d Dot" is what happens when you put "Voxel" through babelfish a couple times, right? I mean, it would be such a waste not to use voxels when you're going for that look.
80's game shows at their finest. I loved to watch people get screwed over by Whammies just when they were about to win. So how much is the game supposed to cost? I can't imagine more than $30 all things considered.

Hell yes.

I would not get hyped up for Shiren 3.

I just want it on DS. I don't know why.
I'm looking forward to Mx Vs Atv Reflex. Should be awesome and if they only released on pc there would be a lot of modding going on.
