So is the general consensus on platforms that the PC is the best way to go, assuming you've got a beefy enough system? Most of the reviews I've seen have mentioned that the UI is a lot more suited to a PC than a console.
Wait, what?! They had a multi platform release with the UI more suited to the PC?!

Wow.
Gonna have to buy this now.
PC was the lead platform for this game form the start. I don't think it was even officially multi-platform until EA bought Bioware.

Ahh. Been on a media blackout for this game, only having watched the 'This is the new shit' trailer really. Thank you for that info!
Yes. And it really doesn't even need to be that "beefy" of a system by today's standards.
Well, some of us decided to stop playing the "PC upgrade game" and haven't upgraded their PC in a couple years. I don't play very many games any more, but when I do I buy them for the 360 now.
So it sort of depends on how "current" your PC is, and if upgrading it is something you want to do.
I don't want to because I don't use the PC for gaming any more.
I ordered the 360 version, after reading Gamespot's comments on each platform's version of the game, now I'm second guessing.
I wouldn't worry about it really. If you're the type who doesn't much care about the difference between PC and consoles, you'll enjoy it on the 360 just fine.
Im really sorry to hear about the 360s faults with this game... Nothing to totally deter me, but its just unfortunate. I would probably feel at home playing the PC version as i spent lots of time on the Baldurs Gates there, but if i have an option i always opt for consoles.
Am i the only one who misses the way mage spells were "Once a day" in BG? The whole rest and study thing gave mages a ton of character, and furthers them from the recharge mechanic that i for some reason equate with WoW.

I didn't mean to imply that there aren't reasons for buying on a console, but DA has always been designed as a PC-first game, and thus (seemingly) inevitably suffers some when ported to consoles.

I cannot possibly think of anything I miss less than Vancian magic. I'm so goddamn glad 4th Edition ditched it.
How's the performance of the PC version? Is it one of those games that you actually need a fair bit better than the reccomended requirements to run it well on high?
I haven't been following closely; what's the matter with the 360 version again?
Removed overhead viewpoint, adjusted enemy number/placement to adjust for limitations by lack of viewpoint, less/harder to control party members, adjusted AI to compensate
I think thats it.
Edit: Sorry, I thought you were asking the difference between PC and 360.

Any luck getting copies for the brick & mortar sources like EB or Gamestop? I'm planning on heading to the local mall around 2:30pm EST to hunt for a copy of the standard edition.

The devs say the recommended requirements are enough to run it on high/max settings, depending on the resolution.

I almost wish I had preordered from Amazon or something, as I am on travel and can't pick up the game until Saturday at the earliest. But I pre-ordered at the Gamestop near my office (40min from home), as I usually pick up games on the way home from work.
So when I get home from travel on Saturday, I may have to drive the 40min back and forth to get the game.
Does anyone know if you can "move" preorders from one Gamestop to another? I've already paid in full at the work-Gamestop, and I used trade-in dollars to get it.
There are obviously Gamestops closer to my house, so it'd be much easier on the gastank to get it from one of those.
EDIT: also, the Gamestop website is showing DA as being in stock in Maryland as of 8am EST.

In Baldur's Gate I never know when I should use my spells. Is this encounter easy enough that I shouldn't waste any? Bioware apparently realized it wasn't a great idea to make the player make that choice:
Gameplay Design Note: Unlike in games like Baldur's Gate, the system in DA: Origins is designed to encourage tactical use of buffs over strategical. We wanted to put an emphasis on the player making smart choices during an encounter vs. the player guessing which buffs might be useful ahead of time or having to employ save-die-reload to find out.

Thanks anyway.
Even with the supposedly depressed requirements I don't have a PC that will run it. Xbox is really my only option (lacking a PS3) so I was worried there was something horribly wrong. Framerates and textures aren't really something I get bogged down in.
I feel like I'm making some progress with this whole "unlock the game on Steam through sheer willpower" idea. I think if I keep it up for a few more hours I might make a breakthrough.

Let me join in and help. We'll team psychic attack this.
After replicating something like the same symptoms with the burnt out carcass of another pc, I'm very nearly almost certain that my power supply gave up the ghost.
Now if that's all that's fried, I'll be happy. I have suspicions as to my motherboard's fidelity.
I regret every time I chuckled at the sight of a fellow bemoaning the untimely death of his 360. I loathe faulty hardware so much.

Dragon Age would have definately killed my Xbox 360 given the amount of playtime I expect to be putting into this.

The Social site seems to be broken at the moment... Well the forums at least. ;p
They tried to bury us. They didn't know that we were seeds. 2018 Midterms. Get your shit together.
All the handwringing made me think it was something important.

Gamestops never have any game in stock ever.

Have you pre-ordered it? If so, you could already be pre-loading it! But yeah, it unlocks today, 1pm pacific time is the posted time.

I think its an option within the game.
Nope. I'm going to go preorder it right now though. :winky:
I loooove workin 5 minutes from home.
That's weird..the Gamestop near me has had it in stock for the past week.
I picked it up last night. :winky:
And you are here posting? Lies. You are just trying to make us jealous.
Of course! Gotta spread the good word it's in stores.
Obligatory:
