weird problem in firefox

i started up firefox fine today, then closed it and reopened it later. it now does not retain any history, nor can i press back to get to a prior page. also all my bookmarks have been deleted and my 'buttons' across the top are gone (quick press bookmarks or whatever they are)
this is on a vista computer, and IE works fine. any ideas?

    have you tried rebooting and/or reinstalling it? possibly some part of your profile has become read-only.

    Sounds like your profile is screwed up. Not sure if your bookmarks are intact, but you can try making a new profile using the instructions here and see what happens.
