Wii Homebrew - Backing up Gamecube memory cards

Note: Couldn't find an active Wii Homebrew thread, most recent one saw its last post in July. Wasn't sure about reviving that. I also have a very specific inquiry.

I've played thousands of hours of Phantasy Star Online Episodes 1 & 2. As any of its players know, the game is temperamental enough to corrupt your data under numerous circumstances, especially while online (which is still possible). It's also one of few games where you're not allowed to copy or move the file under the Gamecube or Wii memory managers. I'm afraid of losing my progress and thus don't play much any more.

I've noted there several Wii homebrew programs that purport to back up and restore Gamecube saves, but I've never gotten one to work. I'd like to hear from someone, anyone who has got one to work, and how

you should have resurrected the last thread. theres a lot more homebrewers subscribing to that one. I seem to recall a special transfer card for the gamecube that accepts SD. You probably have to use your memcard to load up the game, then transfer out your card with the SDgecko (i think thats what the gc sd memcard was called) and then save your game onto that card. Transfer the file to your computer to back up.

Ah, so there really isn't a way to simply back up even entire cards (thus sidestepping the ID no and checksum issues) via the Wii's SD cardslot. Shame.

I don't get why homebrew developers would waste their time developing data-management solutions requiring fairly obscure hardware no longer being produced or sold, though. I'll also never understand why Nintendo did their best to ensure Gamecube memory card data was as irreparable as possible.

Edit: Tsk, how rude of me. Thank you for the information, regardless.
