I want to buy a new headset, preferably a set of headphones with an attached microphone.
The speakers aren't an issue, I use earphones at the moment and the only difference from earphones to giant ear-clamps is less bass, which I don't care about.
The problem is, how do I make sure I get a good quality microphone? In my experience with them, microphone quality varies greatly, from the terrible one in my screen that I have to lean down to, to the ones that pick up irritating sounds. I assume I need one with a foam cover to dampen any sound that isn't my voice?
I just wanted general advice, is there any clue in the names of headsets that will tell me if it's good? do I need to look at the physical thing for certain things? I really have no idea.
The Logitech Vantage USB headset for the PS3 and PC has given me phenomenal recording quality in the past, but it only has one speaker on the set, so it depends whether you want it for just speech or full-on sound output.

Well, if you already have 'phones, you could go this route: Zalman ZM-MIC1. I got one of these to pair with the headphones I already had, and it works pretty well.
I had a lot of trouble in the past with the mics dying on headsets, so I finally went this route with the idea of 'Well, if it turns to shit, at least I can replace it cheaply,' and honestly, the sound quality has been just as good as any of the higher end headsets I'd tried, if not better. I suppose it was a bit of a hassle at first managing the extra cord (it comes with little clips to attach it to another cord, but they were far too small for my headphones), but I made a tiny cable loom courtesy of wire ties, and it's been fine since.

I know it's not a headset, but hey. Even a 30 dollar webcam can have a really good mic, you can't say the same of a 30 dollar headset.
we also talk about other random shit and clown upon each other
