Man, that don't make it less stupid.

You want to say I'm bitching about something that's pretty beyond me to change? Yes. That is exactly what I'm doing.

But don't act like I'm some kind of bigot or self-hating Uncle Tom Queer just because I dislike certain elements of the way a lot of homosexual men behave themselves.

Or perhaps because he finds that conforming to forced behavioural standards that don't even begin to resemble your own behaviour is an incredibly stressful, uncomfortable and overall unpleasant experience, and thus feels it would be best to get an eye for an eye.

OR -- if you're answer is because "well it makes me feel uncomfortable" then yes, we're saying tough. That's what happens, and it's what you deserve for not being able to respect and support another human being who just wants to act how they want to act without harming anyone else. This desire that people not act how they are because it is unlike how you would act? That's bigotry, champ.

Matt made a "Malcom X to Martin Luther King" comparison that I think sums up a lot of my beef with the situation well.

I normally hate comparing sexual orientation politics with racial ones, as they are very much not the same thing, but the analogy in this case I think works.

I find it a great deal ironic that for being the guy who wants to be calm, measured, and "buttoned-down" about the gay rights movement, for being the guy who is actually quite moderate on the issue, I'm the one labelled as being bigoted and hateful.

I don't like this "all or none" attitude people in the so-called "Gay Agenda" seem to perpetuate. That you can't ever make any sort of concession or conformity, that's a sign of weakness or failure.

    It's absurd.

This is the thing, ace, that you're not getting -- YOU'RE THE ONE WITH THE ALL OR NONE ATTITUDE.

Sequined thong guy? He doesn't care who you are or what you do, that's his point. He expects you not to care how he chooses to express himself, much like he doesn't care how you choose to express yourself, as long as you express yourself in a way that is true and honest to you.

ON TOP OF THAT -- the Malcom v. Martin comparison is STUPID, because Civil Rights would have FAILED without Malcolm, Huey, Assata and 'em. Their lives CONTINUE to instruct, inspire, and guide MANY people making POSITIVE change in the world. Apparently for you, it might be much nicer if no one rocked the boat and we just had Martin asking all nice that we let him sit at the table, but for some people THAT'S NOT GOOD ENOUGH, because they're SICK of being stuck down in the FUCKING SLAVE QUARTERS and are going to DEMAND change, instead of exhausting their ENTIRE LIVES waiting for someone to let them be who they want to be.

What you cant see is that it is harming someone else. No matter how much your good liberal mind might want to believe it, being gay still isn't mainstream or "OK" in America. Do you actually think the sequined thong guy standing in the street screaming "WE'RE HERE AND WE'RE QUEER" is doing anything to help keep gay marriage bans from being passed? Fuck, if there was a parade of straight guys in suits screaming "WE LOVE PUSSY" I'd vote to ban hetreosexual marriage. The gay community is in a fight for equality right now, hell it's in a fight to even exist. And no matter how much it sucks that you have to get "approval" from the majority, strapping on your fairy wings and sequined thong is a sure-fire way to fuck everyone, including the people who just want to get by, not just yourself.

Oh ok, so the next time a gay hating, wife beating, binge drinking, gun shooting, rebel-flag waving, Jesus-fish-sticker-applying-to-his-pickup-truck redneck makes a scene, you can't say shit. Not one goddamn word. Because then you're making him conform.
Yes, that's exactly what I'm saying.
That's great, you can link to a wiki article, but that doesn't change the fact that it's true. The crazy, abusive redneck is just as heterosexual as you are, and his behaviors reflect on everyone else. It's why you can get away with making "hur hur the south is backwards" comments. Yet when it's a superfag making life miserable for the ones who just want a boyfriend or a husband, a 2 car garage and a good job, somehow it's hateful bigotry to get pissed when you're lumped in with the sequined thong guy.
Yes. It is true. Care to tell me I'm saying some more things that I'm not? It's kind of funny, honestly. I said the same thing as incenjucar, you just don't like the way I said it, or that I said it, either works and it doesn't really matter.

I've read what you wrote, and I've asked you one simple question in an attempt to understand what you're saying, and you've refused to answer it.

Ok, here's what's wrong with what you're saying: like it or not, all movements need extremists who people don't like. This is because they serve the important function of getting people to come half-way in their thinking and to consider the more moderate issues.

Unfortunately, in the gay rights issue, they also make the rather important point which is no matter how they choose to express themselves, it's still none of the state's goddamn business. That people are out there being somewhat in your face about the fact their gay has no bearing on an issue such as gay marriage, but it neatly makes anyone complaining a hypocrite since the heterosexual contrast is, summarized, all pop R&B and pop Rap.

That would be fine, except in practice what it comes to be is that the extremists come to define the whole of any political action from anyone who acts on behalf of the quality they claim to represent.

To the point that it's difficult for people to actually make those moderate and central moves because they are automatically battling an uphill that is beind added to by such extremists. They aren't helping. They're hindering.

How many places in the US don't just not have gay marriage, but outright have laws against it now? I don't blame the Gay Pride people for that entirely. I'm simply saying that they aren't helping.

No movement needs an extremist. An extremist on one side only brings out extremists on the other, making life harder for everyone else invovled and prolonging the fight.

And you're right, it's not the state's business how someone expresses themself. What you do in your own home is your own business. But what you do in the middle of the street is everyone's business. And when that's making life hard for members of your own group, then fuck you, they're not the bigot, they're not self hating, you are.

Oh hush. I've seen my fair share of gay pride parades. Thongs and wings are standard issue.

Man, the only thing I ever got from a gay pride parade was a broken inflatable donger. I feel ripped off now. If I'd got sequined thongs out the deal maybe I would've enjoyed it more.

    Blaming the victim.

Many places full of proud gay people were the first to pass Gay marriage laws (correlation? hmmmm...), but then the bigots rallied together and passed questionably legal laws in order to "preserve" their bigotry.

And you think it's the gay people's fault. Cute.

Right, because the people marching in the streets in San Francisco were directly harming the people in Legget who voted against their right to marry.

edit: and your point about extremism is stupid and wrong.

Actually, that isn't what I'm saying. In fact, that's the opposite of what I'm saying.

But okay. You can keep saying "blame the victim" as a way of dodging personal responsibility and create things I'm not saying in order to argue with them. Seems to be your thing, and god forbid I ask you to conform to standards of logical discourse and reading comprehension.
