    What were you expecting.

I unno. Perhaps more than a 40k bump from September. I suppose the Wii really has reached a saturation level.

It needs to be pointed out that last months NPD contained a week of post price drop sales. Someone in the last thread calculated how many were sold pre and post drop and there was a significant rise in sales in the one week. Compare the numbers to August where the Wii only sold 277k, so the drop has spurred a large increase of sales, and it was only a $50 drop.

I bought it for the 360 and I am going to sell it when I am done with it, and probably profit.

What are you thinking of selling it for?

CEX currently give £36 trade in, which means I could get £37 trade in from Gamestation.

At the moment Gamestation is refusing to honour price matching on COD with the super stores.

I dont really blame them in this case, I figured the super stores would do it at 40 rather than losing out on millions of pounds of profit but £26 for MW2 is just ridiculous.

Is either October or September a five week month or a four week month? I always end up forgetting.

    September 5 October 4.

I'm impressed by the Wii beating out the DS.

Also I'm surprised/impressed that the 360 can do this well against the $300 PS3. I expected more of the PS3s gains to come out of the 360s hide, I guess.

The opening parts are really fun, just that after the first obviously worked on opening, the game really loses focus, thats why the demo didn't show the focus less sections, and thats why the sales are where they are word of mouth killed the game I'm sure.

I think the problem with Brutal Legend is that people were expecting vastly different gameplay than what it actually ended up having. I know I thought it was going to be The Legend of Zelda starring Jack Black written by Schaffer and instead it's some sort of weird Action/RTS hybrid.

EDIT: And the really sad thing isn't Brutal Legend not making the top 10, but Half-Minute Hero not making the top 10. Sure, I'm not actually surprised (it's the very definition of niche), but rarely have I played such a fun and unique game.

I think what killed Brutal Legend's chances was coming out with Uncharted, with Borderlands shortly thereafter, and then finally Modern Warfare 2.

I dunno borderlands is a different demo much more likely to get hurt by mw2 then brutal legend was (you also forgot dragons age.)

Also the game didn't really know what it wanted to be, that said 200k sales isn't really a death knell, hard to say what kind of legs it will have considerinng the word of mouth is really polar.

    From Gama:
However, notable by their Top 10 absence were any music titles, including DJ Hero, as Frazier commented: "The music/dance genre saw big declines this month compared to last year. The genre generated $53 million in sales [in October] as compared to $137 million last year. Both Rock Band: The Beatles, and Guitar Hero 5 have the potential to be good gifting items for the holidays, so we should expect to see an uptick in sales over the next two months."

I'll agree that the game did a poor job of advertising what genre it was.

I just happen to be in the group that was pleasantly surprised to find a well managed console RTS.

The single player is great, but when it's over, it's over.

The multiplayer is what keeps me around, though as we found out tonight, finding games that are more than 1v1 seems to be a bit challenging.

The top game for the month across all platforms was NBA 2K10, at 575K units. It was a great launch for the game, outselling last year's NBA 2K9 by 60% in its launch month. Sales on both the Xbox 360 and PS3 platforms improved substantially over last year.

I really really like action games. I really really like RTS games. I really really like Brutal Legend's concept. It by all means should have been one of my favorite games this year. While witty and charming, I found it to be really really mediocre. It's an enjoyable rental, but it's a rental. I don't necessarily wish it ill will, but games like Uncharted 2 and Borderlands deserve to do about a million times better than it.

    September 5 October 4.

Hang on, really? This makes the numbers really interesting. Compare this:

    September
    NDS 524.2K
    PS3 491.8K
    Wii 462.8K
    360 352.6K
    PSP 190.4K
    PS2 146.0K

    To this:

    October
    PlayStation 2 117.8K
    PlayStation 3 320.6K
    PSP 174.6K
    Xbox 360 249.7K
    Wii 506.9K
    Nintendo DS 457.6K

Knowing that October has one less week, the DS more or less held steady while PSP sales actually dropped a bit. During the release of the Go. Holy shit.

The PS3 dropped a bit but is still doing much better considering its usual four-week average pre-price drop was in the low 200k range. The 360 held more or less steadily and is doing decently.

But the Wii actually surged. Wow. Wonder what was the cause? Or maybe the $50 price drop caused more of a slow burn?

In third place with 418,000 units was the 360 edition of Borderlands, the all-new action-role-playing game IP from 2K Games and Gearbox software. However, when the game's 113,000 PS3 units and 15,000 PC units are included, the game's sales total 546,000 units--enough to barely top Uncharted 2's haul.
US VIDEO GAMES INDUSTRY - OCTOBER 2009 (Oct. 4-31)
    Hardware: $380.74 million (-23%)
    Software: $572.73 million (-18%)

The popular innovative games certainly exist. They're things like Doom, Half Life, Devil May Cry, Guitar Hero, ect... The problem is once these innovative games become popular, they're turned into franchises or at the least copied by other companies. So if you're looking for an innovative game that isn't copied (like it sounds like you are) of course it's not going to be one that was popular enough to sell well.
