Help me [Master] work!

Summary: I want to get a MBA (or Executive MBA?)

Background: I went to school at UT Arlington and graduated with a degree in advertising. The business is what interests me and I wanted to understand the processes and development involved in day-to-day operations.

Current situation: I work at a mortgage company doing basic data analysis and general IT work. I wanted to establish a position at a company that could afford me a solid salary and flexible hours in order for me to complete a master's degree. I have said position and job security, so now I can afford school.

Plan:
get into MBA program, preferably at UT Dallas (20 minute commute) or other nearby well respected/scoring university. I can then use this to acquire a position in a full-time or company-owned agency where I can learn the business and put to work my unique (read: videogame fiend) experiences for the changing market.

So that's where you guys come in. I know the requirements involve taking the GMAT, which I will need to start studying for asap.

The reason I want to get the MBA is that it seems a college degree is essentially worthless to upper management when it comes to their glass ceiling - seems to me the easiest way in is another piece of paper. What should I be doing to prepare?

tl;dr - Want an MBA, not sure exactly where to start besides taking the GMAT/GRE.

I have no idea if this will apply to you at all, but in my experience getting into grad school, if it's a hard to get into school, good letters of recommendation are gold. It is very worthwhile to try and start building some relationships with people who can write you letters.

Great advice, and that's a requirement with some schools near here. I need 3 letters, and fortunately, I work VERY closely with 5 Vice-Presidents and 2 Senior Vice-Presidents, all of which are amazed by my excel powers and punctuality (I'm sure there are other things as well, but these guys have been here 10+ years and continually shower me with praise)
