Scotland, some random year that no one cares about.
The village of St Newsteadtown near the northern coast.
This small village has become the home of some
unsavory characters, such as this man:
Captain Donnald Donnan Drummond. He has a taste for haggis. Made out of the body parts of his enemies. With some of his ally's flesh for taste. Ally flesh tastes better, he claims.
He brought a few of his corrupted haggis-eating comrades with him, it seems.
But fear not, for Captain Richard Johnsmithson has arrived with some of England's finest!
Our hero is camera-shy, and declined a closeup. But you can see his bodyguard on the left.
Now, not wishing his men to enter combat with these dirty Scots, he ordered his archers to take the front, and pick off the filthy Highland Rabble as they came at him.
The advisor who told Johnsmithson that the path was blocked was quickly executed.
At first, the rabble was too dumb to figure out that these were unprotected archers.
But when they found out and charged the seemingly unprotected arrow-hurlers... THE TRAP WAS SPRUNG! One man survived the hail of arrows.
The reported last words of that man were "I'M INVINCIBLE!"
As the archers walked up the street to lure out the prize, they responded: "You're a loony."
After using up all their arrows on Captain Donnald Donnan Drummond, the archers had to retreat. Spearmen and swordsmen finished the bastard off.
Alas, with his last words, Donnald Donnan Drummond summoned an alien spaceship and beamed up one of our fine men.
After the battle the men made camp in the village. They then gathered up the corpses.
The eating was surprisingly good.
*cough*
For those of you who have been living under a rock for the past few years,
Medieval II: Total War is a simulation wargame based on Medieval Europe. Troops are not mindless automotons. They'll get tired, scared, and they'll even run away if they are in the process of being utterly destroyed. This adds another element to battle, as you don't have to kill every man on the field. You just have to kill enough to make the army rout.
Now, for those of you looking at the "[GAME ON]" part, I'm going to be hosting a Hamachi network for our Medieval-ing.
Name: PA Medieval 2
Pass: wangs
I might adopt a [GAME ON] channel on the Vent server, but don't count on it.

Why thank you, yes indeed.
I would probably be up for a game. Maybe. I don't know.

Point? I find it hilarious that I just bought off all of England's provinces for a piddly million Florins.
Desperate, the 62 year old Laslo charged head first into the fray, killing the arrogant Doge immediately. Venice's vastly superior army put up a token fight before realizing that God was on Laslo's side and retreating.
Later that night, after the celebrations, Laslo died peacefully in his sleep.
(if I hadn't thought I was going to lose that fight for sure, I SO would have taken screencaps)
Yes, slap with a halibut
I lack a mic at the moment.
Once I get it back, I'll adopt one of the generally empty [GAME ON] channels.
...Lolwut?
So, they have a multiplayer battle option, near identical to the Custom Battle creation screen... and it autoresolves it? I think not.
EDIT: Beat'd like a dirty whore.
If you have multiple people playing a game, someone could be a dick and totally draw out a battle.
True.
EDIT: I saw your chat message.
EDIT: Screw it. If you want to play, JOIN NOW.

Probably because I kept on making them execute prisoners and fight nearly impossible battles.
Still, watching Toby of Berkin become Toby the Champion, Toby the Valorous, Toby the Crusader, Toby the Saint, Toby the Horseman, Toby the Merciless, Toby the Bloody, and finally Toby the Mad is pretty entertaining.
BTW, did I tell you guys that I have conquered every single territory not located in the New World? Because I totally have.
Then you should have won by now.
Dude, I did. You can still keep playing. I think it that it is year 1634 right now or something. Yipee for extended time mod!
Also: Endo, what the fucking hell were you downloading for two hours?!
Ah. Maybe tonight, then.
Ok Dudes, I'm downloading the 1.1 patch right now. What else do I need to know? I haven't played a total war games since Shogun (which I don't have anymore, which is handily included in this huge box set I just bought)
Right. Click. Interface.
(For Rome and Medieval 2).
I might just reinstall. Again.
I just picked it up today.
Friday night I got home late and stayed up until 4:30am playing it. Just.. one.. more turn.. for 3 hours.
Ivory and gold out the wazoo. I'm getting a couple grand a turn just from four merchants.
does the hamachi game thing let you play a campaign map with multiple people
or are we just talking more multiplayer battles
I'm bitter, I lost a battle to my cousin after my billmen failed to kill a single knight they had just charged into the rear of, down a hill.
I built up an awesome army to repel French invaders, only to have the guy defect right after a rout of their siege. I'm starting over.
I'll send you a copy of the Traits and Ancillaries lists.
Because then you can fuck around with your generals.
"Hmm... Let's make all my generals 10 star and 10 dread!"
Yeah, it can be overwhelming to newcomers. I remember the first Medieval having a fairly steep ramp, and Medieval II deals with so much more.
I rarely suggest playing tutorials, but I really do for Total War games.
This game is brutal.
Also, I finally threw in the soundtrack to listen to. I never really paid attention to the music in this game. It's really top notch.
Yeah, there's a lot more there than just the generic medieval music we're used to.
Also, a lot of us probably can help with specifics, defrag. For instance, you mentioned trouble with merchants. It's best to take it slow with your own merchants. Try to find a semi-valuable resource and head there, trying to stop on other resources along the way. If you see a merchant that has 3 or 4 more points than you own, book it, as they'll probably try to take you over. Similarly, if you are a couple points above the opposition, try to seize their assets. It's really the only way to grow as a merchant until you become good enough to sit on a gold reserve for the rest of your career.
Edit: Also, I was just excommunicated for attacking France at the behest of my merchant's guild. They gave me a lousy 500 florins for it :x
At almost 1200 AD, though, I'm at the point where I pretty much have to take France now, as Milan has taken Paris and a few other provinces. It'll be a fun day when I'm forced to turn on my strongest ally.
