My sensor bar wire frayed and snapped, so right now I'm using candles which was all well and good until they burned down and I tried to replace them and wax spilled all over my tv.
So two questions: Any commonly-found replacement ideas, and what do I have to do to have Nintendo replace it?

Use anything that gives off infared.
Flashlights might work.

Take your frayed wire, strip it down so you get the two cables within, and hook them up to a decent battery... one of the big flashlight ones will do.
There, you are done.

Let's play Mario Kart or something...
it's funny I have two hanging lights in my kitchen, and if I point at them from my couch it seems I get a better signal than if I use the led bar nintendo provides.
My scientific experiment is trying turn the hand upside down on the Wii channels screen. It jitters all around, disappearing and such when I use my Nintendo bar, but it stays solid and smooth when I use the kitchen lights that are 16 feet away.

perhaps the lights are interfering with the wii sensor?

Very likely. My cursor was jittery too, until it dawned on me I had a lamp right next to the TV. Turning it off, and everything is smooth.
To be honest I don't know how it frayed. I move it from upstairs to downstairs about once a week, and I carry the sensor bar with the wire wrapped (loosely) around it. What I think it was, the wire got caught under the console, and got tugged as I was adjusting the bar placement.

That's scary.
I assume it would be pretty easy to reconnect the wires though?

lol sorry guys, posted this ages ago and never actually looked at the reply. didn't realize the link was massive
I really am waiting for a third party sensor bar that gives more range to the pointing functions of the Wiimote. It doesn't bother me in my crappy apartment, but when I was home for the holidays I quickly found that pointing doesn't work farther than 8 feet back which is sort of annoying when you're playing on a big screen television.
Luckily I won't be returning home again for another 12 months, so I got time to wait. I'm such a bad son....

just be thankful you've never tried DBZ. It bitches at me till i move to within around 3 feet of the sensor bar :?
My cat ate through my sensor bar wire .... I'm shocked that I let him live
fyi the sensor bars are backordered on Nintendo.com. I called them up to see what the wait was and they (the 2 people I talked to) said they had no idea when they would ship, but gave me a rough estimate of a little over a week

Huh? I sit about 16 feet back from a 30" TV, and pointing works just fine.

Oh god my H-scroll.
I'd play with the quote tree with this insane h-scroll, but I don't have a side-tilting mouse, and I might get in trouble. =(
He already critically failed his candle-replacement roll once, man.
Or is it nintendo's for having INSANE LONG URLS

How? Were you using it like a skipping rope or something?
That's scary.

The harder the rain, honey, the sweeter the sun.
Honestly anything that gives off a good light will work.
