It's not quite a hoverboard, but Sony looks to be set to take at least two wheels of the venerable earthbound skateboard (and apparently make up for them in size), if this recent patent its been granted is any indication. Known only as the "vehicle steerable by movement of center of gravity" for the time being, the board appears to be fairly similar in operation to the Segway, with the carrot-nosed rider simply required to lean slightly in the direction they want to go to get the wheels' independent electric motors into gear. Those worried about the prospect of a motor-assisted face plant will also apparently be able to opt for the relative safety of three of four wheels. Sony also seems to have other possibilities for the technology in mind, including a bicycle configuration and a two-boarded setup, with one foot controlling each. This just being a patent, of course, there's no indication as to when it'll actually be available or how much it'll cost.
Whoosh! Jammin'! It's like a Segway, but X-Treme!!! You can even attach extra wheels for safety, but... pfff!
This pretty much confirms "Segway Trix Attaxxx 2007" for PS3 and PSP.
I bet the price is more than a black market internal organ.
Yeah, but Sony's always been making products like that. Remember the original Aibo?
Edit: Oh, and black market organs are relatively cheap, compared to the real deal. You just aren't garunteed for your health and safety... nor is the person they were "purchased" from.

Speaking to the thread title: Because making essentially the same game over and over is a bad thing. At first your game may be good. After identical game number three, it's not so much with the fun anymore. See also: Mega Man, Dynasty Warriors, just about everything out of EA Sports, etc.
Speaking to the thread content: It has finally happened. Sony has graduated from turning videogames into a smoking heap of suck, and moved on to the rest of youth culture.

Eh... Activision just needs to admit the truth, and basically turn Tony Hawk into a yearly iteration, like Madden is. Indeed, the engine and style gets updated with about the same frequency.
Personally, I could see Activision making a TON of money by selling a "core" Tony Hawk engine, then having micropayment plug-ins that customize and upgrade the game. Not overkill, $2 a car like GTHD was rumored.. but like $30 for the core TH experience, then you pay $5-20 for TH1-8, Downhill Jam, and new content. Sort of like the Steam experience, I guess.
I dunno. It might not be financially sound.. but it's how I'd like to see Sports games sold.

Not a single person's "heard it has two wheels" yet? Stunning.

This thread title is pissing me off. I want to come in here and bitch about Tony Hawk's Underground but instead I see a fucking segway.
We've already taken control of the thread, bitch all you want.
Woo!
So I played the shit out of every Tony Hawk game up until THUG. I played Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 4 and I love it. The only complaint I had was "I wish skater creation was better."
I expected a lot from THUG, and I don't exactly remember why I didn't really like it... I think it was because it was too linear.

When THUG first came out I played the hell out of it.
Returning to it only last week, it struck me about A) Just how much more I prefer the Gamecube controls over the PS2, and how fucking horrid the storyline is. I mean, THUG was supposed to be an experiment in integrating a story, as it were... but they keep giving you this complete asshole who everyone else seems to treat as God.
Oh... and really, the levels just weren't that well designed for someone who prefers vert.

except for that hawaiian level with the 100 foot drop...
(vert sucks anyway, skate street, go home kook)
and I don't think the storyline was so awful. of course it was bad, but what did you expect? it was passable.

Well, from what I understand, THUG2 was worse.
And Hawaii was only good due to jumping off buildings, something I could do in the GBA version of THPS2.... ;-)
No, I have high hopes for Project 8 as well. I just dunno if the slo-mo thing is a gimmick or not.

Project 8 is much better then the last bunch of THPS games, though some of the Sick objectives are a tad extreme for my liking.
Agreed, it is nice for a challenge for once (I breezed through all the Sick objectives in the last few Tony Hawk games I played) but some of them seem ridiculous. I'm hoping they'll be a little easier once my character's leveled up.
Some of the bail goals are kinda stupid too, but those are really the only complaints I have about it. Everything else is superb.

I think the only real bad part of the game is the factory, it just had bad level design IMO.
I don't know, I actually kinda enjoyed THAW. Not as a good game, per se, but more for the camp value of "am I actually playing a skating game with boss fights and fetch quests?"
I want to know where the Wii version of Project 8 is, however. Hello, Wiimote and Nunchuk as left and right feet?

Never coming out. Project 8 was always 360/PS3. Wii is getting some other Tony Hawk game...forget what it's called.

here's hoping project 8 is good
(thug 1 was a good game, everything else blows)

THUG was awesome.
THUG2 was horseshit, yes. But THUG was absolutely fantastic.
And Project 8 is great, it actually makes me forgive Activision for THUG 2.
Yeah, I've only played the demo, but I plan on buying it. It looks pretty good.

downhill jam, already out.
I hated THUG and THUG2.
Project 8 would be excellent if it weren't so fucking horrendous to play on the 360. The framerate utterly KILLS it.
