I own a PS3, and an Xbox360. When it comes time to puchase a game thats on both systems, I have a surprising amount of difficulty choosing which one to get. I know that games intended for both systems are typically developed on the xbox and ported to the ps3 due to the Cell's difficult learning curve, which tends to make a less then best version of the game, while games that are designed for the PS3 tend to turn out awesome.
What im surprised i have not found online yet (and anyone is welcome to steal the idea) is a review site that specializes in reviewing the differences between the versions. Quite often the same review is cut pasted from the 360 and PS3 sides of ign or gamespot. I know about gamerankings but it doesnt help much as they usually just point to the same review twice.
Is their a site that does this already? What irritates me is due to me having an old style 360, i dont have an HDMI port, so when i see PS3 has a higher resolution i usually pick that...but that could just mean im getting jaggie pictures in a sharper resolution.
You won't find much of a market for this, because games are very, very similar from console to console, to the point that it's impossible to tell unless you have two monitors side by side, and even then it varies by TV manufacturer. Buy it for whichever console has the controller you prefer for it, or for the one for which most of you friends are also getting it.
Also, there's a possibility you may be the 'call' part of a call-and-response spambot. In which case, ignore everything I say, and stay away from my family.

I know that Eurogamer frequently does comparison reviews for major-title games with video footage, but it's not a constant thing. Still, they might be your best bet.
Game Informer has this in their magazine reviews, but not on their website reviews (for some completely logical reason :? ). I agree, it would be nice to find just a little bullet point on review sites for multi-platform games that just says which one is the best.
Those are probably the most detailed comparisons you'll find from a technical side. Unless there is an exclusive DLC issue, that's one of the best places to find info on this.

example snip: For 360 owners, here's where we see what you might call classic Assassin's Creed performance: 5.2 per cent torn frames (just like the first game) with a 24FPS minimum (ditto). It bears out a gameplay experience which suggests that playing ACII feels very similar to playing the original: off-putting screen-tear when it does manifest and a sense that the game isn't really as solid as you would hope it would be two years after its predecessor came out.
PS3 gets a 24FPS minimum, with 22.6 per cent screen-tear. Yes, the sequel is clearly a big improvement over the first game in terms of raw performance, especially in terms of a smoother frame-rate, but the tearing is clearly a very big issue, and it's most especially evident in crowded scenes. The very nature of Assassin's Creed II means there are a lot of crowded scenes.
So what about the 1080p mode then? Assuming the DF measurements are right and it is indeed rendering 25 per cent fewer pixels than pure 720p, can you effectively decide to go for smoother gameplay over some detail loss and some extra blur? Apparently not: in our tests the game acted in exactly the same way as the native 720p mode does, and the loss of image quality was a bitter pill to swallow.
This is a perfect example. I saw NOTHING of this on the general web review sites. Its odd that this comparison review has not caught on and become a standard thing. Sure not everyone has both systems but that number is changing as the current gen systems start to drop in price. I'm not by nature a nit picker, but I do want the most for my money. I guess its the 360 AC2 for me.

That's pretty awful. V-Sync FTW.
If you want to see fairly in depth comparisons of overall game performance, this is a pretty good site.
