Help finding special signature of someone

So my AP US history teacher tasked me with finding the person that this signature belongs to. Problem is, after an hour of useless googling, I got nothing. This person that I need to find wrote out their signature then would go back and fill in any letters they missed. That's all the information I have to go on. Any ideas/ signature resources anyone can point me towards?

No idea. Is there anything unique about the handwriting?

Not that I was told, which is part of what makes this kinda impossible.

She didn't give you a picture of the signature? Just said "find out what person writes his name and then goes back and fills in missing letters"...?

Do you at least know the general era of U.S. history the person was in? If you know it's a Revolutionary figure, for example, your first step should be to pull up a copy of the Declaration of Independence and check it against all of the signatures there.

    If you don't know? Damn.

I'm assuming that they're either Civil War or later seeing as this is the point in the course he's brought it up.

That sounds like something a lot of people would do.

Just going on what you said and the fact that no actual signature or picture or anything was given this seems to me more of a riddle, bad history joke, or pun. But that's just me.

Or the OP's teacher heard that story about the "unsolvable" math proof that someone solved accidentally as homework and thought "Man, I need to pull something like that on MY students."
