Appeal of Sarah Palin?

I'm just really confused.

Why are people rallying behind her so feverishly? I don't understand. Everything I have seen concerning Sarah Palin points to excessive naivety concerning, well, everything! I don't see anything remotely appealing.

I don't mean to be rude to any supporters, but I'm just calling 'em like I see 'em.

I hate you and you hate me.

she represents the pinnicle in anti-intellectualism. She's an "average American" and that appeals to a large swath of certain ideologies.

Granted, the image is completely manufactured. But she does play the part well.

Because she's a figurehead for their malformed, inchoate rage. Everything that her supporters believe is represented in her vague, weird statements.

    Because Glenn Beck likes her.

I think he like likes her.

Beck rubs off on his audience. Read into that sentence whatever you want.

Pretty much this. She's more-or-less Dubya with a vagina. So they get to have all the same views that Bush espoused, without all the baggage that came along with him, and they get to appear progressive and open minded, because they're supporting a woman.

Why? Because its a win-win situation?

Either its a crushing defeat and gives an easy win to Obama, or the Mayans turned out to be right after all.

People rally behind her because they know how stupid she is.

If she left they might have to rally behind someone stupider and god help you guys if you get another bush level president.

I just want to see it.

I mean, she spent the last two years declaring war on the media, while embracing the fringe and the mayor of Crazy Town (Beck).

I want to see what happens when all of that crazy gets combined into a single campaign. I'm thinking it will be very similar to the end of Ghostbusters.

Basically. Politics is a game that requires a great deal of time. Conservatives are aging. Palin is probably the youngest person with something approximating the version of conservatism that the republican party's chief donors endorse. You get any younger and you start to get back into camps... fiscal conservatives (true moderates, blue dogs), gun conservatives (libertarians), and bible thwackers (hatemongers).

Not that it really matters though, both parties are doomed. "Business as usual" is going to cause the government to implode in the next decade and the ensuing voter rage is going to flail both parties for allowing the debt to grow so big that half the deficit is payment on the debt.

If she does, it'll be the most glorious month and a half in the history of American Politics.
