They would HAVE to be DLC. that's 4 maps right there you are getting. If they aren't DLC they won't even get played due to the limited number of players.

It would be stupid marketing on a level with Marvel Ultimate Alliance 2.

looks like you get a coupon to get the first map pack for free, whenever its released. im fine with that.

also yea, that hunter edition is kinda ridiculous. im not one for that kind of thing usually, but im a pretty big alien fan.

Good for you, Australians. Maybe your politicians realized they actually didn't want to be burned to the ground and their houses hanged.

Maybe this will trend over to Europe as well? Doesn't affect me, but we can always hope.

Europe is a pretty big place man. I've heard the laws are tremendously varied.

Yeah, I hear it has about a million different countries, a number of which love to ban violent games. Can't really be bothered to try and pick out a handful of countries from the whole group.

More importantly, that's a pretty nice-looking special edition. I'm calling right now that they weld the facehugger to a base to prevent people from throwing it at each other. And what does lenticular even mean?

EDIT: Lenticular means it's a 3-D movie card thing. Yay?

Politicians have nothing to do with it - they're the ones stopping an R18+ rating, but this got snuck in under MA15+ without edits. It's one of the reasons that the lack of an R18+ rating is ridiculous. I'm glad it did make it in under MA15+ because hey, I want to play it, but this does also add fuel to the fire for both sides of the R18+ debate.

Cool! A thread for AvP! I've been trying to keep up with the new one, and it's good to see a thread here.

Now, a couple pertinent things: I wonder how the "special" kills will work in multiplayer. It's cool if you can rip out dudes head etc, but not if it makes you a sitting duck for everything else in the room.

Secondly, I read that the Predator has a limited arsenal to start with and must pick up powerups scattered about the map. This sounds dumb, very dumb. Instead, couldn't they have him spawn with ALL weapon options, but have the more powerful ones on long cooldowns or limited ammo so it's not too OP.

I hate the idea of having to find powerups in MP FPS's, what is this, 1998?

Sev: Your gameplay is the most heavily yomi based around. Usually you look for characters that allow you to force guessing situations for big dmg. Even if the guess is mathematically nowhere near in your favor lol. You're happiest when you have either a 50/50, 33/33/33 or even a 75/25 situation to go crazy with. And you will take big risks to force those situations to come up.

Eh, weapon spawns have been a staple of this kind of shooter. It adds a little variety of having to adapt to what the map gives you rather than have all of your options immediately. I'm willing to bet that the Marines don't get a pulse rifle, smart gun, flamethrower, and shotgun all to play with right out of the gate, and it makes a bit of sense. On the other hand, though, it's always been a problem of getting stuck with the starter weapon hopping around the map like a maniac trying to find a better weapon, only to get pasted when you finally find one.

I could go either way on the subject, and I don't really think it matters all that much.

Well, if the "power-up" system is the same for everyone, then sure. From what I read, I was under the impression that the Predator alone did not have access to the full arsenal. It also sounded like the Marines had several weapons to start with.

Also, how would a weapon spawn system work for the Alien? I've never played the original AvPs so i don't know how they handled it. Kind of weird for the Alien to have to grab powerups, I mean what does it need them for? it can bite your head off.

Aliens start off as a facehugger and work their way up to whatever adult alien stage they had selected in the spawn screen. At least that's how it worked in AvP2.

More health? Stronger hits? Longer pounces? Quicker transformations? (Assuming you're a facehugger\worm)
Allowed to evolve into stronger classes? Turn into a Queen after X stuff?

Basically, I could see power ups working for Aliens quite well, if handled properly and it was properly balance tested.

God I cannot wait for this game. Any approximate date yet?

Oh, that's how they did it. Interesting. I really had no clue how it worked originally, thanks for the reply.

Well, I have high hopes for this one, as it's the original devs working on it. And judging from the comments here, it seems like they know their stuff.

@Unlucky: February is what I heard.

2/16 is the date everyone's got. Little less than a month.

The only reservations we've got about Rebellion at the helm is that that their recent track record has been nothing short of abysmal. There isn't a whole lot to be proud of developing on this list.

The two PSP Battlefront games they developed were actually pretty solid. So there's that.

It isn't really going to alter my purchase, because it's an AvP game. I absolutely loved the first two. And I played through, and enjoyed, Primal Hunt.

mostly it's because I love the pulse rifle. That sound, man. That sound.

    Exactly.

This is a first-day buy for me, just like AvP2 was and the original AvP was. My friends and I used to play survival all the time, I always used a Smart-gun.

That's good news to me. I was worried that another company had picked up the license because they're not actually labelling this as a AVP3 are they?

The Marine campaign in AvP was more horror than AvP2. They really got that down there, I have to say. I kind of liked the engine that AvP2 was in, though, since it let them play around with some lighting stuff and add more the atmosphere that we all want from an Aliens game.
