The Marine campaign in AvP was more horror than AvP2. They really got that down there, I have to say. I kind of liked the engine that AvP2 was in, though, since it let them play around with some lighting stuff and add more the atmosphere that we all want from an Aliens game.

All I know is that the online in AVP2 took away many hours from me.

How much extra is the Hunter edition? I could go for some extra multiplayer maps, even though they'll probably be released for download later.

It's a whopping $100. And yes, it even says, multiplayer maps will be released later... but it comes with a life sized facehugger! Fuckin awesome.

I just want the sticker for my laptop. Loved AVP 2, but couldn't get into avp. Multi for AVP2 was great, get enough kills in some maps and you got to be the queen running around eating people.

The main thing I remember from the first PC AVP game was my PC had a virus which stopped it from working. I got home all giddy, ready to bite some marine heads off, and... crash on level load (about half way).I was nearly in tears for weeks, constantly installing and reinstalling, hoping it would fix itself. Then my dad came home from work and said a coworker had the same problem, and a virus scan fixed it.

I nearly had a heart attack when it passed that magical halfway point, and I saw the actual game appear.

If you were unawares, they rereleased AVP on Steam - Aliens Versus Predator 2000 Classic or something or other, updated(not graphically) to work on modern machines, they also just released a patch that adds proper widescreen support, unlimited saves, and stuff.

It's also only 5 dollars, and you get all the stuff from Gold, and some other map pack thingy. It lacks mp right now, but they are patching it in for free.

I'm not sure yet whether I want the PS3 or PC version.
-have a big TV, but not a big monitor (19inch flat running everything at 1280x1024)

Going to depend on if PC allows player made stuff maps/mods.

Have they said anything about any kind of mod or map tools, though?

For me, I'm picking this up on 360 depending on reviews and user opinions. I have a big screen, too, and this seems like a very cinematic experience. I am worried about their recent track record, though, thus the waiting. I've got a gift card here ready to go for it, so hopefully it plays as good as it looks.

I don't know, and that's the thing.. even magazines don't have that much info on the game and its out in a month.

-yeah I have both 360 and PS3, but no online options with my old 360 (its too much work to drill holes and run wires to the basement router) so my PS3 is my goto for online play console games.

I mentioned this a few pages ago, but it probably got caught up. I would have edited the title and OP, but jailed people can't edit posts. The current thread title is in reference to the Australia fiasco, but that's been done with for a while.

If any mods are reading, please feel free to edit either to mention AvP Classic hitting Steam for $5 if you are feeling charitable.

    This.

I can't decide though, Bioshock 2 or AvP. ARG.

Would someone be able to gift me a copy of AvP if I give them the money in a week or so? The Aussie version is quite a bit more expensive than the US one. (Costs $65US here instead of the usual $50)

Unless this is the norm of course?

    Aliens: Colonial Marine > AvP(3)

    because

    Gearbox >>>>>> Rebellion

I am shocked this game is getting the amount of hype it is. Has anyone taken a moment to ask who the hell Rebellion is what their track record is like? Did you SEE the reviews from their game in the fall? http://pc.ign.com/objects/849/849719.html

AvP1 was OK, it's success mostly a product of it's timing. AvP was FAR better. This game should have gone to Monolith again or somebody else entirely.

I hope it doesn't suck, but I forsee a mediocre game / waste of a great opportunity coming.

    Colonial Marines lacks predators.

    Ehh.

Everybody knows that the Predator is just an allegory for the subconscious racial fear of the black man anyway. I mean, he's got dreadlocks, talks in clicks, runs around in the jungle, practices guerrilla warfare, wears the bones of his enemies, and carries a spear for crying out loud.

Here you have a group of gallant white people exploring the jungle, and getting picked off one by one by a savage, who the last survivor eventually outsmarts after losing his technology based advantage (his firearm), after he resorts to dropping down to the savage's level and using the enemy's own tricks against him (cloaking, in a sense), and it even reinforces the image by covering Schwarzenegger in mud to make him appear brown.

It's pretty much every 19th century Dark Continent novel ever written.

I agree, I wan't sure why Rebellion got the IP back when Monolith created the better game.

Colonial Marine is more interesting to me, but I haven't really liked any of Gearbox's past efforts. Borderlands was good but it has plenty of flaws, unfortunately.

I'm pretty optimistic about this game still. They seem to have a solid premise as far as gameplay goes, melee attacks, blocks etc.

I'll try and keep up and do more research, but it looks like a day one buy for me. I mean, Predators.

Sev: Your gameplay is the most heavily yomi based around. Usually you look for characters that allow you to force guessing situations for big dmg. Even if the guess is mathematically nowhere near in your favor lol. You're happiest when you have either a 50/50, 33/33/33 or even a 75/25 situation to go crazy with. And you will take big risks to force those situations to come up.

That Survivor mode video is cool. That should be a lot of fun to play.

How many people can I look forward to playing with on the Xbox 360, by the way? Or is everyone leaning toward the PC version? My PC can handle the game, but I kind of want to play this on the big screen with the good speakers for ultimate terror.

Gonna be on 360 for me as well, simply because of the larger number of online players in general. More noobs to stalk and hunt.
