Acer vs Toshiba

KaozKaoz __BANNED USERS regular
I'm going to pick up a cheap laptop on bestbuy.com , and I'm leaning toward the Acer with the athlon processor over the Toshiba at the same price point. I just want something for my upcoming trip down south to check my mail, watch movies etc. Any reason I should reconsider? Sorry for the lack of link, I'm posting from my Droid. Any help would be much appreciated.

May I ask why you only want to choose between these two? A budget might help too.

Going on a two month trip to South Carolina, and just need a functional laptop as bringing my main computer isn't feasible. Don't really want to spend more than 500 to include shipping etc.

Edit: I also don't want a netbook, I hate the tiny keyboard and weird aspect ratio.

That's also a great deal. If I was to go that route should I upgrade to windows 7 or downgrade to XP?

Based on quality my bet would be Toshiba. I would trust them more than Acer in terms of build quality.

If the acer is significantly more powerful than the Toshiba then you should take that into consideration.

That computer's specs will run Windows 7 very nicely, so I would go for W7.
