I can barely hear out of it and when I closed my nose and blew to open it, air just goes out.

I Googled a bit and some say "doctor!" and others say "no doctor!" So, what's up? :?

    Wait.

Air is coming out of your ear when you valsalva(plug your nose and blow)? That's not normal.

This should be pretty cut 'n' dry, but I'm gonna go ahead and suggest you go to a doctor anyway.

That is exactly what I'm doing, yes. Never knew there was a word for it. :)

How could you not? The term was used on an episode of the Venture Brothers

Seriously though, you might have a busted eardrum, so you'll want to get that fixed by a doctor so you don't experience hearing loss.

One time I had some water stuck in my ear and was told shooting more water up there would make it unclog, (WHY I listened I have no idea) and what ended up happening was a giant explosion in my head and a ball of wax like you have never seen shot out. I couldn't hear for about an hour and a half and it felt like my brain was leaking. However! After crying myself to sleep I woke to supersonic hearing for a little bit, then back to normal! But uh, yeah I would go to a doctor. How long has it been?

If you were actually punched/slapped in the ear, its very likely that you have a ruptured eardrum.

    Get it checked out immediately.

I'd recommend a doctor, fairly soon. How's your sense of balance?

Depending on how serious it is you could need surgery.

    Just pointing that out..

Yes. You are being retarded if you don't go see a doctor.

Medical assistant Dad came by and confirmed it's a ruptured eardrum, but his sagely advice was to "wait a week and if it still sucks, we'll do something."

My main concern was, at the time, I made the dumb mistake of trying to clear out my ear with an ear swab. It didn't hurt or do anything noticeable at the time but in retrospect that could have been a huge mistake.

Ear swabs aren't supposed to enter the canal anyway.

I suppose it really depends on your insurance/cash situation. I would see an ENT - despite your dad being an MA.

And yes, keep ear swabs out - the wax is in there for a reason.

    Perforated eardrum.
I've had this a few times. It just needs to heal. I had grommits when I was a kid, so a portion of my ear where the skin grew over is weaker than normal. Pain in the arse, and the fact that I cant stay ou of the sea doesn't help.

The only time a doctor was able to do much was when it happened due to an ear infection.

On the bright side, if you go flying - you wont have sore ears.
On the down side - you may want to have your hearing tested once it heals.

Do not f**king plug your nose and blow to open or unblock your ears. I did this when I was a kid and it seriously broke my ear. It hurt like a mother f**ker and made me sick and nauseous. After that, whenever I would swim too deeply my ear would crack and pop and start to hurt again.
