Figured some of you nerds would find this as enjoyable as I did. The guy really has a great enthusiasm for his stuff!

I dig this guy's showmanship, and I'm totally stealing that bit at the end.

Definitely great showmanship. I wonder if he's full of shit on a lot of his points, though.

And you'd think a guy who pioneered American dice manufacture would no the singular of the word.

This guy is great. I heard he's retired from the convention circuit, though.

As far as his points, the stuff that's just basic physics is pretty easy to confirm. I don't have any game science dice, but if he's keeping sharper corners and (more importantly) uniform face size, his dice are more reliable. I don't have any specific examples, so I don't know if they are really that way or not. I do know that I check my dice a lot more closely now than I used to, though.

Of course, his stacking of dice to prove that they aren't identical doesn't confirm that they're sanded down too much. It's possible the companies he's sampling from don't have identical molds for every casting, etc.

Having used precision edged die though, the ones from chessex that are just straight from the mold, I roll 20's more often than any of my friends.

The important point is whether you roll 20s according to probability, or if they do!

Well, granted, I also tend to fail semi-frequently. I'm just lucky and most my failures happen while attempting non-fatal actions, or while absentmindedly rolling.

I wouldn't mind a bunch of casino dice. I play Warhammer, I don't want the dice bouncing around all over the table knocking stuff down. :P

I agree that what he says is good, but I love my korean dice. i got 106 dice (40 20 sided) for 11 bucks. They have all the problems that he was talking about, but I love that they roll around. I tried sharp-edged dice, and felt that instead of blaming the dice, it was my hand that was the problem.

    I'd rather blame the dice.

That was interesting. The guy brushes past some stuff with regard to injection molding that is technically inaccurate but probably appropriate when explaining something to a layman.

Though that $65,000 dollar figure for a mold to produce tunnel gated dice is absolutely ridiculous. There has to be something else going on there. I suspect it is either not a recent figure, there was an inordinate amount of cavities or they required some stupid amount of precision. Oh, and half the reason those second dice "look" horrible is the difference in materials.

well you know, exaggeration for the sake of salesmanship

"OH MY GOD YOU MEAN MY DICE HAVE BEEN STEALING MY 20'S FROM THIS THE WHOLE TIME! SELL ME THE BEST THING YOU HAVE NOW!"

I know my dice have flaws... I use the Koplow Jumbo Dice. They're easier to read and they feel better in my big ol mitts.
