Gateway Solo 9550 won't turn on

My brother left me with a broken Gateway Solo 9550 laptop. It doesn't turn on. The main battery that powers up the laptop appears to be dead. When I plug the AC adapter into the laptop, some of the indication lights, (Power on, Battery Charging, etc.) turn on. This is strange, because the "Power on" light is only supposed to be turned on while the laptop is turned on, according to Gateway's documentation.
I have tried inserting a paper clip into the reset hole on the bottom, to reset it. After I do this, the colors each light displays change, or it turns off. The
colors they display seem random. Regardless of which colors are displayed when I push the power button, nothing happens. (The fans don't even turn on.) I have examined the CMOS battery, (it's charged to 2.75 volts, close enough to 3,) I did an ATX reset, and tried turning on the laptop while there was no RAM inserted, and it still doesn't turn on.
Suggestions?
