Surround Sound headphones recommendations

AuburnTigerAuburnTiger Registered User regular
I'd like some recommendations for surround sound headphones, mostly for PC gaming. Wireless is nice, but not really a must. What IS a must is that they be high quality and comfortable. Price range is maybe $150 or less. Do these fabled headphones exist?

there are a lot of choices in that price range.
you can get a lot of different things, but the ones i list i have personal experience with.
"surround sound" in headphones doesn't work as well as virtual surround sound.
you can have 6 tiny speakers or 2 good ones.

sennheiser hd201 - cheap, somewhat comfortable (for me), good sound

icemat steelseries siberia - mid-range price, great sound, extremely comfortable, even after long play times
i will use these forever. they sound great in games and are the most comfortable headphones i have ever used, virtual surround sound "positioning" is excellent. i played lots of cod4 and had the edge when i won local tournaments (i used knife only while they shot bullets and such)

audio technica ath-pro700 - less cheap, great sound, somewhat comfortable, great sound

    LOOK AROUND BEFORE PURCHASING!
amazon most likely has cheaper prices on the siberias

    edit : wireless + sound = no

I once had a pair of these so-called surround sound headphones and they didn't work very well. They sounded like crap and it was hard to notice the surround effect at all, other than things that were supposed to be happening behind me sounded even shittier than stuff that happened in front or beside me. It was a few years ago, I don't know how the tech has progressed since then, but you might be better off getting a decent pair of stereo headphones and a sound card with surround virtualization such as CMSS 3D

None of these are surround though.

I have always been a fan of Plantronics when it comes to headsets, they are usually good but not nearly as expensive as most sennheiser headsets for example.

    Take a look: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16826265066&cm_re=plantronics_gamecom-_-26-265-066-_-Product
