Battlefield: Bad Company 2: PC beta/360 MP demo out now!
The tracer dart was in either BF2 or BF:BC (I can't remember). Not many people really used it, but it was pretty neat if you just ran around tagging vehicles.
That's bad company. I use it a lot as spec ops is my favorite class. Although because of lag it can be pretty hard to hit stuff with it unless you're super close. It's been my dream to tag a chopper in flight with one.
After watching that episode of GTTV I went back and tried a few matches. I forgot how terrible I am at this game. There really needs to be some sort of commander or way for the squad leader to set markers and stuff for their squad. Gold rush works decently, but conquest gets ugly pretty quickly when everyone is dicking around doing their own thing.

I've tagged them on the ground and then waited for them to take off for antics! That was a really damned fun game, but I hit 25 or whatever in a few weeks and sold it back.
I would hope it's just that special edition people get these things unlocked early, but everyone else can level up and get them too. So it's just they have an unfair advantage for a short while instead of forever.
That would make a bit more sense if so. And I have to admit the tracer dart thing looked cool in the video.
I can't imagine that DICE would do something so horrendously gamebreaking as giving tonnes of vehicle buffs for certain, more expensive packages only.
Horrendously game-breaking things? No DICE would never let tha-
Improved Vehicle Armor: An up-armor package is mounted on all vehicle types, decreasing the effect of both explosive and penetrating warheads, significantly improving vehicle survivability.
Supreme Vehicle Firepower: Additional weapon packages are mounted for the driver of all armored vehicles, greatly expanding the range of targets the vehicle can successfully engage and destroy.
Vehicle Motion Sensor: Use this electronics warfare package to locate enemy units in direct proximity to the vehicle.
Tracer Dart Pistol: This magnetic dart attaches to any vehicle surface, allowing squad members to track, lock on, and fire rockets onto moving targets even beyond line of sight.
M1A1 Sub-machine Gun: Reliable but heavy this classic weapon is a powerful force in the hands of any Battlefield veteran.
M1911 Pistol: Highly customized M1911 are favoured for its dependability and the power of its large .45 caliber round.
The last two I don't mind so much, those are just weapons and can be balanced in themselves. But the rest seems fairly balance breaking, it comes down to giving players advantages because they spent more. I mean, better armour and more weapons on vehicles? AND knowing where nearby enemies are? Doesn't that strike anyone else as blatantly overpowered? Or how about the ability to tag vehicles for firing rockets outside of Line of Sight?
I mean, I can understand giving additional stuff for SE packages, but that really shouldn't be balance shifting equipment, especially in a multiplayer game.
You can only use one vehicle buff at a time. So you can have the extra firepower but not the armor.

The did the same, and kind of worse, in Bad Company 1. Pre orders got the rank 25 weapons from the start, and there were 5 more unlocked by either pre orders or special promotional codes, like registering for their news letter or getting rank 4 in the demo. 3 of those codes were released on their site after a couple of months though, and none of the weapons were particularly game breaking.

The only one of those weapons I'd see that ever got play time was the VSS anyway.
On January 14, 2010, an email sent from GAME.co.uk was posted stating that the Demo will be available for Xbox Live and PSN Accounts on the 4th February
so I guess there will be something, at least.

A quandry, though; all of my buddies play on Xbox 360, but I'm leaning towards getting this on PC. I've been threatened with the shearing of my balls by the aformentioned "friends" if I take said action.
So on the one hand, PC BF2. And on the other, my balls.

Hmmm.
Buy it on both. That way when the 360 crowd filters back to Halo/MW2, you can still play it on PC. I've noticed PC online games tend to hold an audience longer.

I honestly never missed it in the original. I mean, it would have been nice, but it in no way broke my interest in the game, and I even mainly played sniper. I'd just crouch inside a bush (which, along the ghilli suit, made it just look like a thicker bush).

No prone means no dolphin-diving, which is fine by me.
I actually had some good rounds/skirmishes as a sniper (which I almost never do in ANY game before) and I never missed the prone. The areas were so large and had a lot of vegitation that it never became an issue.
looking at the new multiplayer video on gttv the other day, they seemed to have opened the kits up, so you can pick and choose different gear from different classes, which is something I am looking forward to, as opposed to having to choose demoman for defense or medic for attacking for the mines or the mortars respectively

God I hope they do this. Nothing made me happier in the first game than creating a new door in an occupied building and taking out everyone inside with my silenced 9A91 as the dust settled. If I can only get the C4 with a sniper rifle and a pistol I will be sad.
No, weapon types are still limited to each class. Assault gets ARs, Recon gets sniper rifles, Medics get LMGs, and engineers get...silenced weapons? No idea what class demoman is, or why you'd want to have it on defense instead of for blowing up crates

I've noticed this as well. If this takes off, the community's probably going to survive for a bit longer. Battlefield games tend to stick around. On the consoles everyone goes back to MW2 and frigging Halo ("because all my friends are playing those games").
That said, you probably want to play with friends, assuming they actually cooperate and crap. Any chance you can convince them to get in on a Steam 4-pack when it becomes available, or do they shun the infernal machine altogether? I mean that's going to be a lot cheaper than individual console versions anyway.

Demolitions has been merged with Engineer. The weapon selection for the kit is odd, but it looks like you can swap out the suppressed carbines/SMGs with shotguns as well. I'm okay with that.

Well, it looks like you can drop a RDS on a VSS, that's pretty much an AR as is...

Most of us 360 players pretty much gave up Halo when CoD4 hit. Since MW2 is pretty meh when it comes to multiplayer, we might all migrate over to BC2 permanently like we did CoD4.
That is as long as Halo: Reach is still the horribly slow and boring death match that is Halo 3.
I would still be playing ODST if they didn't fuck FireFight up so badly.

It just seems like everyone I know on a 360 only ever seems to be playing MW2 right now. Before that it was Halo Halo Halo Halo...
To be honest I'm not sure how much of an impact BFBC2 is going to have. I mean I know quite a few people here are interested, but I'm not sure there'll be this massive shift that everyone seems to be expecting. MW2 is the game that everyone's playing and everyone's friends are playing. And in general, you play what your friends list is playing.
That, and on a more realistic level, we don't know how the actual multiplayer is going to shape up right now. For all we know it could be a buggy unbalanced mess.
One thing going massively in BC's favour though is that DICE are actually willing to hold a beta to iron out the more obvious issues. Something that MW2 could have genuinely benefited from.

I think you'll see a bigger shift to BC2 than you think. The first Bad Company didn't get anywhere near the press coverage/hype that this one is getting. I think the first one just kinda snuck up on people because of how huge CoD4 was. This game isn't suffering that fate. Especially with how craptastic MW2's multiplayer has been. I know that my friends and I only really bought MW2 to tide us over until BC2. Once BC2 hits you won't see me on MW2 ever again.

The standard edition is the same thing without unlocks. Doesn't really matter.

Well, there was this tweet last year confirming no prone in any version.
I guess denial played a part too.

Just because you have defibrillators, doesn't mean you just just go around shooting people.
I doubt it'll be that big a deal here.
