I thought it was called The Underground Railroad...
It was sort of an RPG/adventure game with multiple choices - you could run North East West South at most screens...
You played a black man running from the plantation... and you had skills randomly assigned at the start. Like you could or couldnt swim, could or couldn't read english (the signs would be all gobbledegook if not). Farmer's dogs would chase you and you could die in numerous ways and get a game over.
Anybody know the title or where I could find more information?
If you made it all the way to Canada (going north a helluva lot) you won the game.
I'm looking around for this game, although there doesn't seem to to be an apple II game with that exact name. What I DID find was something far more entertaining. So in the meantime, Enjoy!
I managed to find a couple of titles that sound as though they may fit the bill, although I'll be damned if I can actually find any information about them: Underground City (less likely) and Under Southern Skies (a bit more likely). Hope that helps a bit.

So am I "IT"? Good, because when Mandy's "IT" she uses dobermans, and I don't think that's fair.
Freedom!
Freedom is a discovery-learning simulation in which students assume the roles of enslaved African Americans trying to escape to freedom in Canada. The program takes place in the slave states of Delaware, Maryland, and Virginia in 1830s. The African American experience is not trivialized by having students collect points: the reward is simply making it to freedom, and the only other possible results are re-enslavement and death.
The most "historical" game we played was the Oregon Trail. Of course, if I wasn't so damn busy trying to save my oxen every time we crossed a bloody river, I may have learned something!

now to dig up more on it
what a weird game to be playing in grade 2... i was also the only one who ever beat it, cuz it took nearly the entire block to make it to Canada.
this is the same class you played number munchers, odel lake, and so forth in.
