Oh, that is a good one. I haven't seen the ending, though... I was playing it on GameTap and I plowed through almost the whole thing in a single sitting, and it crashed when I got kind of close to the end. I would have had to play the entire thing again, and that wasn't happening. Oh well.

Also Still Life is pretty good. I mean, I wouldn't say it's the best adventure game ever, but it has a pretty neat story, visuals aren't too bad, and I feel more comfortable recommending it now that they released the sequel and it doesn't end on a cliffhanger anymore.

Grim Fandango, one of my all-time favorite games.

This. It really is the best adventure game ever. No other game has a story or characters like Grim Fandango.

In that case you might want to check out The Interactive Fiction Archive. A rather helpful index of games can be found at Baf's Guide to the IF Archive.

Of those, 'Slouching Towards Bedlam' and 'All Things Devours' are my favorite. The first one is a creepy affair, and the second one is a time travelling puzzle game if memory serves.

So I see a lot of super-classic stuff here already covered. And I had played them all years ago. But in the last couple years someone turned me on to Broken Sword (the first one is the only one I played) and it was pretty much everything I loved about adventure gaming as a kid.

    I always liked Babel.

I'll second Still Life. I got completely sucked in, and the cliffhanger really bothered since at that time the company went under or whatever. I haven't played the sequel yet, but I played Still Life again and still really enjoyed it.

If we're talking IF, 9:05 has probably my favorite ending the first time you get through it.. The set-up, and execution is just perfect. My jaw dropped and I was like "Wait.. What?" And I had to go back and re-read it. In an awesome way.

Short and sweet too.. Not too much puzzley the first time through.. But you'll want to play through it again and again trying different things after you see the ending.

Someone should probably start an IF thread. I would if I wasn't too lazy o.0

    Key Infocom "must haves"

Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy- This was written with the help of Douglas Adams. Very obvious while playing. This game is funny as hell. I recommend everyone get this game, get the walkthrough, and just play through it. Simply for the writing.

There's a nice version of it playable online on the BBC website: http://www.bbc.co.uk/radio4/hitchhikers/game_nolan.shtml

This game has been online for a while, but this version has new illustrations by the guy who made the Guide illustrations for the original BBC show.

Play Spider and Web. And don't read any spoilers or hints about it!
