Gift idea: Want relatively violent Wii game for senior/not-video-game savy

My dad (age 67 or so) got a Wii recently - but he's not much of a video game player. He does, however, like relatively violent movies/shows (think Sopranos, Snatch, No Country for Old Men, something that involves shooting someone, stuffing them in a car trunk, shooting them again, driving the car off a cliff, shooting the burning wreckage, etc).

Are there any good Wii games that allow you to cause a fair amount of bloodshed & destruction without necessarily being a skilled video game player? (e.g. someone who can figure out Wii Bowling but isn't going to get much beyond that and has relatively low patience for anything that isn't pretty obvious or involves clicking more than one button).

I thought Mad World was pretty straight forward. It's got the viscera you're looking for as well.

    House of the Dead: Overkill.

Point at screen, shoot stuff. Simple but great.

This is exactly what I was going to suggest.

I should try this game. I loved the old House of the Dead on PC that came out a hundred years ago or whatever.

This was my first thought, as well.

Alternatively, the Resident evil games are like this as well no?

And Re4 as well, if you think it's not too complex.

The House of the Dead game got kind of old pretty quick. A good shooter for the Wii is Resident Evil Umbrella Chronicles. More weapons, better graphics, I thought it was more fun.

I think less weapons is probably an aim, here.

If he enjoys a rail-shooter he may be able to move on to something more complex.

Thanks for the suggestions - the House of the Dead sounds great, especially since the Amazon reviews indicate the profanity reaches epic levels, which will be a big hit. If he likes it and wants something a bit more involved, Resident Evil sounds good too.

Yeah, consider all the rail shooters, pretty much just point at screen and fire.

    House of the Dead 2 & 3
    House of the Dead: Overkill
    Dead Space: Extraction
    Resident Evil: Umbrella Chronicles
    Resident Evil: Darkside Chronicles.

House of the Dead: Overkill is fantastic so long as you're not buying for an hour / dollar gamer. Its a great game worth playing through at least twice and then worth showing to your friends, but the gameplay is easy and straightforward. This game perfectly fits the bill for "older gamer who isn't hardcore wants something entertaining and violent." The game is very tongue-in-cheek, highly recommended for grindhouse movie fans or people who appreciate horror / comedy.

Madworld is another great pick, a little more traditional-gamey and the style is more peculiar, but the game is again very violent and pretty funny. Madworld tends to last longer and the humor has a darker bent, and the gameplay itself is a little more solid. Similar game in that its violent, horrible, and funny, but less "cheeky zombie parody" funny and more "horrible you impale a guy with a streetlamp while two assholes give sports commentary" funny.

For adult Wii games that aren't designed for comedic effect, you have Dead Space Extraction (another on-rails shooter, more authentic horror and violence less cheeky comedy), and the upcoming (12/8 IIRC) Silent Hill remake on the Wii, which hopefully turns out well. Those might be good alternatives if you're looking for more "creepy / violent" adult and less "violent / dick joke" adult.

    Godfather: Blackhand Edition.

You choke people, you murder people, extort, run people over, do mafia shit, end of story.
Seriously the choking is pretty fun.

OP here - just to give a final update on this - got "House of the Dead: Overkill" and it was a big hit. Dialog/plot is "so bad it's good", and we laughed for a couple of hours taking turns killing stuff. Thanks all!

Just a thought, but from the list of what your dad likes TV show-wise, he enjoys violence that is somehow meaningful or significant, ie for convoluted revenge or from heat of the moment passion. Zombie movie style mindless killing and 'so bad it's good' things that just happen to be gory might not do it for him.

So, despite having not played it, I'll throw my hat in for the Godfather game too.
