Please help me buy a new Laptop.

Hello everyone,

Hopefully you can be able to help me make this decision, I want to be completely sure that I'm making the right choice.

I'm looking for a new laptop to buy, since my ancient compaq presario died a couple of weeks ago. This will be the first time in around 5 years that I get a new computer (My old laptop was bought used, while my current destktop is close to 6-7 years old), so I'm looking for something that can replace my desktop (It can't be that hard, it's an Athlon XP 2600, 512 RAM, 80 GB HD, Ati Radeon 9000 Pro.. Manages everyday tasks, not so much for games) and my laptop (Old Compaq Presario 2500, heavy, but it was cheap! And I needed a laptop fo school/work).

So, I'm looking for a laptop that can replace a desktop, but still be portable, I wanted to get a netbook at first, but I think I'll wait for a while until they manage to fit ION into 10 inch netbooks. I would also like to play games, I know I can't expect a lot from laptop graphics, I won't be able to play Crysis or other graphic intensive games, but coming from a Ati Radeon 9000, I think that any thing that it is not Intel Graphics will be a good upgrade.

Browsing for laptop models I found an ASUS N81 Series N81Vp-D2 NoteBook which has: An Intel Core 2 Duo T9600(2.80GHz) 14" 4GB Memory 320GB HDD 7200rpm DVD Super Multi ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4650 - 1GB DDR3 graphic card +Windows 7.

I have made some research on the Graphics Card on www.notebookreview.com, and while it's not top of the line, it looks like it can stand it's ground.

I have also read that the battery life isn't that good, but I don't mind, I will keep it plugged in and on a desk most of the time.

Regarding my Budget, I first wanted to spend no less than 1000 USD, for a 15 in laptop with good graphics, but later I found this laptop which is 14 in, and on Amazon I can see several offers from 1000 to 1200 USD, which I will gladly pay in exchange for that extra inch.

Lastly, I'm planning on getting the laptop from Amazon.com, or one of their dealers, is there something I should know about them (Which one to use, which ones to avoid) I can't order it from newegg because I don't have a US Address, only private P.O. Box service (And after reading the Newegg's terms and conditions, I don't think they ship to P.O. Boxes).

Well, am I making a good choice, or is there any other option that I might be missing? Please, no macbooks though, I have cousins which have apple products, and while I admit that they are really nice machines, there are some programs that I frequently use that can only run on windows (Also, I want games!).

tl:dr "I want to buy a ASUS N81 Series N81Vp-D2 NoteBook to replace my broken laptop and old as hell desktop, am I making a good choice?"

Thanks for any replies.
