I tried out a Single player match to just see what the controls and stuff were like... I apparently forgot to set an AI opponent, so it was just 25m of me wandering around wondering what the hell I was supposed to be accomplishing.

Ok zerging infantry at someone with no aa support is silly. and I don't know how he killed the other 2 in ffa, but I stopped his rush with my bombers then cornered him. then flogged him with my long toms.

Also, infantry zerging? really? Infantry are only powerful when your opponent doesn't know they're there and approaches them unwittingly without recon whilst they're hidden in a forest or a city. A single light tank or armoured recon can kite a rushing infantry stack forever and eventually kill them all.

Or, a single bomber in one sweep, as you did.

So I went into this skeptical, but Ruse is really a great game. Loving the Russians, artillery and infantry all day long. I've yet to be faked out by ruses yet other than radio silence obviously being useful. Maybe that's because I've been playing against people who spam fake air assaults into my AA guns... while also building air?

Fake Air Assaults are good for locating hidden enemy AA, which you can then bomb I guess, or better yet tankrush.

Blitz is handy. Camonets are very handy. Not too sure about the other ruses.

camonets are sooo good at defending against an early bomb rush. can't bomb what you can't see!

I just played a match against a guy that rushed super german bombers and tried to do that to me. camonets saved my bacon. he then proceeded to bomb all of my supply points :(.

I managed to turn it around though. I think he completely destroyed his economy by doing that, so when I got some flak guns out and tank rushed him with the guns providing AA defense, he was completely unprepared.

The French are incredibly cheap, so far the only weakness I have found is slow progression if the enemy has air.

At the beginning of the game go prototype lab, research the armed recon. It is pretty much a really good medium tank, good range, armor and damage. Best of all though is it's recon, so it sees other units, and it can go into the woods. It's only disadvantage is it can't destroy buildings.

Back that up with the artillery from the prototype lab and you are steamrolling everything, radio silence until you get close to their base and lob artillery at the air field and AT buildings.

I have not come close to losing using this strategy, ever since I have had total victories, even 2vs1 and still pull out victorious.

I find this game to be really amazing. There are some beta problems like frequent disconnects and crashes, but it is already very balanced and has amazing strategic depth.

Artillery can be really strong but is easily countered by a good offensive and denied of it's targets by radio silence and camouflage nets. Cities and woods make great defensive positions with guns and infantry, but can be destroyed through proper scouting.

I think it really shines on the big maps for 6on6 or 8on8, you really have room to maneuver there.
I don't really have a favourite faction, Italy is really strong for early game pressure but does not have good tanks for the late game. Russia has very good artillery and tanks, Germany can access some of the best units in all categories, but has to pay high research costs for that.
I dislike France outside of team battles because of the strong lack of anti-air options.

None of my friends want to play, I am distraught! And last time I played a pub some kid kept calling me a fag throughout the match. I need to play with some cool dudes.

Also, I really need to tighten up my starting game. I'm amazing end-game if I have a friend distracting, but I seem to spend too much time setting up and not enough building an army at the start.

I, also, need a friend to play with. Pubbing is hurting me, losing is less painful if I kinda know the people I'm losing to.

I'm pretty bad at RTS games, so a friendly match or two would be nice.

So, since this is being published by Ubisoft, can we expect insane DRM shenanigans, or is that exclusively an Assassin's Creed II development?

Well, it's not too bad this time, this game being primarily about the online multiplayer, which you need to be constantly connected for anyways.

Also, I love playing against people that don't use recon (Or get their recon shot down).
It lets me hide my AT and AA in the woods with infantry, and just demolish everything.

I need to know this as well. The best solution I've been able to come up with is to just rush in before someone can build a great stack of artillery under Anti-air and anti-tank guns.

I'm no good at rushing. :(

Except a pararush, once, against Style there. I didn't do it, because it would be a bit of a dick move, but I did drop them in his base, and then walked into a forest to snipe some supply trucks.

    How to defeat artillery:

Use camouflage nets and radio silence to deny him targets. He will have to use scouts, most of which are easy to destroy.
Use armored units to destroy scouting vehicles and aircraft, assault guns are excellent for this as they do not take much damage from artillery and can fire on unidentified units. US can also use the upgraded artillery.

Taking out the artillery itself is highly situational if it is indeed well defended. Sometimes an armored push is best, sometimes it is best to not focus on his artillery, instead take out a few key aa units and strike the enemy base with heavy bombers.

You have a number of options against well defended artillery. Obviously, ruses to defend yourself for starters. Furthermore, it costs a lot to get a nicely defended setup going. You need a few AA, a few AT, obviously the artillery itself, and recon if you're not a complete dullard, plus three different bases for these things. This is also a very slow setup, as the pieces have to be towed.

Counter-artillery can work, but not the best option in my opinion. Generally, look for what his weakest defense is. If he only has a few AA guns, recon rush along with fighter bombers. Only a few AT, light tanks might work. If its truly balanced, you should be able to zerg him as the cost of a really balanced defense is high.

Other options, if he's spending all this money on a slow artillery push, he's lacking in home defenses. Paratroopers or barracks rush could work, and you can definitely harass his supplies(something you should be doing anyways, really). Or just bomb his base.

Remember, ruse is really rock paper scissors. If he has all three, either grab three rocks or just punch him in the kidneys.
