External Hard Drive in Windows 7

I have a Western Digital wd5000c032. It worked just peachy on Windows Vista 64-Bit, but recently I upgraded to Windows 7 64-Bit and now it never appears in my Explorer. I plugged it into a laptop running Vista 32-Bit and it works just fine on there.

I'd sure like it to work on the computer with Windows 7. I don't really want to remove it from the enclosure because these WD enclosures are a pain in the ass to crack open. I tried going to Disk Management and it doesn't appear there either. Drivers appear to be up to date, but there's no knowing for sure because there aren't any 7-specific drivers on the WD site.

Any suggestions?

Just a thought... can you confirm if the External HDD is powered? Sounds silly, but my own WD External HDD wasn't detected by my desktop because the power plug wasn't engaged properly.

Try changing a USB cable, too.

I had this problem too. I found out that my SATA port was turned off in my BIOs.

Make sure that Windows 7 didn't turn off any of your ports in your BIOs settings.

Hey, thanks for the response. I'll give it a shot.
