Alright penis arcade, can I get a hand?

Just bought this tv
, but brand new. I have a ps3 and a combined DVD player/surround sound system.

So. How can I get hd output from the PS3 to the tv, and yet split the audio off to the surround sound so that I can rock out to planet earth and rock band?

Connect the PS3 to the TV with HDMI and PS3 to the DVD/Receiver with optical digital audio. It'll work fine.

I hope you got these items for super cheap/free.

HDMI to the TV, optical audio to the surround sound.

Use an hdmi cable to go from the ps3 to the tv for the video and then use an optical cable to from the ps3 to the receiver for sound. When you set up the audio in the ps3 settings you can pick optical out.

is there any reason you wouldn't hook the audio up to the TV? That way when you add more devices, you can have less switching to do. Or am I missing something and the PS3 doesn't do digital audio over HDMI?

Most TVs won't pass through surround audio - they'll take it in over HDMI, but then they put out stereo on their optical out.

Yes, it's dumb, it was quite the surprise to me too.
