Hello H/A!

with finals mostly done, I now have some times to think and shop for gifts. I already got my mom's, boyfriend, and friends, but I'm still missing some, mostly because I don't know what the hell to get them. I am on a really cheap budget (around 20$ per person but I can get to around 80 for my dad)

people that are hard to get things for:

My dad
He's very laidback, huge Queen fan, Pink Floyd, etc. already got him all the DVD and CD he didn't already have
He likes gadget and being mad. that's pretty much it.

My nephew
I like him very very much, but he's a spoiled brat. I don't want to get him videogames because the one he is asking for are totally not age appropriate (he just turned 8). I'd like him to move more, but I don't want him to hate me because I got him a soccer ball or something

My brother
He's a viking. he likes zombies, metal, gory stuff and everything D&D. I'd like to find something cheap but oh so awesome.

    For Nephew:
Comic Books. Specifically collected editions or "trade paperbacks" of something that is rated out as age appropriate. The Teen Titans are usually a winner here, though Star Wars that avoids the darker elements works too. We've been tricking our nephew into reading all day on Christmas for years this way. You're looking at $10-$15 bucks for a day of quiet, happy kid.

    Brother:
D&D nerds love dice. I know it's true, because I am and I do. A good set of theme dice costs around $10 bucks on average, pushing into $25 territory for the really nice ones. If he's a reader, other options include things like World War Z or the Zombie Survival Guide, both great zombie-related reads, both available cheaply in paperback.

We're reading Rifts. You should too. You know you want to. Now With Ninjas!

I don't know what to get my brother-in-law for Christmas. His main interests are religion and . . . uh . . . *blank stare* Well, anyway, I don't feel comfortable buying religious stuff for people. Maybe I could get him a cool food item or something? (He can't eat nuts.) Right now my gift to him consists of a chocolate orange. I know, I'm lame. D:

Oh, I'm also trying to think of a gift for my dad. Last year I got him Obama's book. This year I'm thinking maybe something science-based. (Nothing by Richard Dawkins, though.)

Check out the Swiss Colony. I've gotten these petits-fours for a wide range of people and they always go down well. The prices aren't bad for what you get, and what you get tastes so damn good.

    For your Dad,

Maybe books about those bands? Assuming he doesn't already have them.

Freddy Mercury, His Life in His Own Words

    Comfortably Numb

Or maybe try to find some new bands that people who like Queen and Floyd would like.

Does you dad have an MP3 Player? Giving him one loaded with his favourite tunes would be a cool gift.

    Nephew

Something with Lego? Most 8 year old kids love lego. Hell, I'm 32 and I love lego.

    Brother

Into D&D? Maybe some miniatures for use in his games? There's lots of zombie books around right now too since Zombies are hot.

Is Impulse collected in trades? Or Young Justice? Those are both very kid-friendly.

I use comics to trick my nieces/nephews into reading too. :) I'm giving them a bunch of the 80s Transformers issues this year.

Impulse is, I haven't seen Young Justice.

Legion of Superheroes is pretty good for kids, though an 8 year old may not "get" it. They aren't typically terribly heavy books.

Robin, Impulse, TT, LoS, older JLA or JSA (the new stuff is very plot heavy and kind of complicated), Superman, Superboy, etc. DC does kid friendly books pretty well. Marvel has Spiderman and such, but they can get kind of rough for a kid that age.

Stay away from Batman or books like that. Good stuff, but not 8 year old appropriate. You want stuff that has them flipping pages, not contemplating the moral implications of vigilantehood.

For the nephew, I second LEGO stuff. You can still buy the big buckets of assorted blocks, right? (Edit: On second thought, how good is he about picking up his toys? LEGOs might not work out if they're going to end up scattered all over the house.)

Does he have a favorite restaurant or a place that he eats at regularly? A gift certificate might work. Or if he's not a stranger to internet shopping, an Amazon gift card is one of the better gift cards out there.

yeah, Lego will definitely end up all around the house, he has some and doesn't look all that interested in them. If I don't find anything (I'll look for comic book, great idea, but he's french so I don't know what's available for him) I'm thinking of giving him a day at the cinema, I'll have to look on what movies are coming out soon.

    Ninja Edit:
also, I did more research and my dad has some Queen album he's missing. Yay!
