Pearl/Diamond Necklace, Christmas Gift

So I'm thinking about getting this: Amazon.com

For my girlfriend for Christmas.

She usually wears pearl drop earrings - I think this would match them well. Thoughts from people more aesthetically minded? I figure at the price online, it can't be beat.

Also, while I am thinking about marriage at some point, that's a bit down the line and I don't exactly want to communicate that she should start picking out dresses. Would this do that?

that is a very very fancy necklace, do you guys go to fancy places a lot? i wear my fancier earrings soooo much more than i wear my fancy necklaces. fancy necklaces scream 'fancy events', it also looks very bridal, yes

It looks like a nice necklace, but my personal preference (I'm a guy, btw) is not for such a large pendant on a thin chain like that. Don't let my opinion sway you if you like it, though. Probably depends a lot on the rest of the jewelery she wears and even what style of clothing.

Other good options include more traditional pearl necklaces, if she doesn't already have one or more.

There's the one-strand option, which she could wear more often. Or if you are aiming for a less frequently worn but fancy necklace, a three strand can be very elegant.

Another thing to think about is what length is right for her, either for a chain or a pearl strand.

As a disclaimer, I know very little about jewelery, other than having bought a girlfriend or two a necklace here or there. In my brief search it looks like prices vary a lot on pearls, and I don't know how to judge what's a good deal... so take my links more as examples than as endorsements.

You can wear pearls any time. I know a woman blacksmith that works in her pearls.

That necklace you posted is a little excessive for anything beyond a formal dinner/cocktails at a nice establishment.

She already has the one strand deal - yeah, otherwise that'd be a go-to.

It is really nice - and no we don't go all out to fancy places a lot ( lot of cooking at the house) but she does wear those earrings a lot and I figure this compliments it a lot. She's a taller, thinner girl so longer necklace would probably look elegant on her.

Anyway, any other sort of gift ideas for a one year serious relationship? Like I said, pretty committed to this girl, basically just chilling out and letting ourselves figure a lot of stuff out for the time being.

EDIT: What about This? A little more understated and not as fancy shmancy.

That last one you posted is really pretty (and I'm not super into pearls, either).

I also found this necklace, which is pretty simple, and not over the top.

(Also... I learned not to GIS "pearl necklace".....)

Try to avoid natural diamonds. DeBeers is known for thuggish tactics and skirting blood diamond regulations.

Personally I find the design a bit busy. I'd shoot for a simple pearl drop of the same color, as big or a bit larger then the earrings, on a nice silver chain (or gold if here earrings are set in gold). It depends on the earrings of course, if they have similar intricate metalwork it could work.

Not much of pearl man myself. If she wears these earrings often, then key to getting her to want to wear the necklace often would be symmetry.

    This is also pretty nice

But honestly, I was thinking about it, and yeah it's cool to get some jewelry you could wear all the time, and get some use out of it, but it's also nice to receive something fancy and really pretty. Especially on christmas.
And personally, I don't really think the original necklace will set wedding bells off in her head, unless it came accompanied with a diamond engagement ring.

And if you guys do go out to a nicer restaurant every once in a while or have a special occasion to attend, she'll most likely want to wear that necklace, so it's not like she won't be getting ANY use out of it.

    *shrug*
