Cable TV and Internet splitting problems

I recently purchased a splitter for my cable line so I could have one line go to my TV and another to my cable modem. The setup worked great for a couple days, but I've been been running into one really annoying problem.

Lately, whenever I try to watch a movie over Netflix on my Xbox 360, the cable modem will start freaking out. The movie will play fine for a few minutes, and then the cable light on the modem goes off, then starts to blink after a couple of seconds, and finally goes solid after about a minute. It will do this over and over again until I stop watching the movie. This only started happening a couple of days ago. When I first split the connection, the videos streamed really well, and then this started happening.

This is the only problem I've had with this setup. The cable TV works fine, and the Internet works fine as well. The splitter I purchased was one of those cheap Radioshack ones, and I think that might be the problem. The ISP I use is Roadrunner through Time Warner Cable, if that's any help.

Any ideas?

I would try your Netflix without the splitter (direct connect) and see if it still happens. Chances are that's not the only splitter in your house, there is probably one in the basement as well. You might be degrading the signal enough with another splitter that you are seeing this problem.

If it turns out that it only happens with the splitter you might want to contact your cable company. They can send techs out with better splitters and gear to measure signal strength along the lines in your house.
