Partition Copy Failing Drive to New Drive [resolved]

Surprised I couldn't find something on this in search, but maybe I just wasn't using the right keywords.

Bosses computer is giving him S.M.A.R.T warnings that the drive is failing on his XP machine. These are HP desktops(small form factors) that really don't have space for a second drive so I'm thinking of just taking his hard drive home with the new one and loading it into one of my old desktops (No OS on it) to do a partition copy.

I'll probably use the western digital software from their site but was curious if there were better freebie alternatives. Google is giving me a lot of hits, but nothing I recognize outside of partition magic which I didn't really want to fork out the cash for a one time use.

The other option is backing it up to our server but at 23GB of data I figured Hard drive to hard drive would be quicker. Also I don't have any experience loading a drive image over a network.

Just looking for a quick fix to get him back up and running without having to reload windows and all our software, all essential data is already on our server so no loss if I have to wipe the system in the end.

Appreciate any input, thanks.

Edit: The software off WD's site worked perfectly... pretty surprised how smoothly it went.

And now you have an opportunity to get some on company time. :^: I would find a linux-based partition software and learn that.

The quickest and therefore probably cheapest way would be to buy Acronis software and use that. ~$100 and it will do everything for you. It's very cool software.
