xbox 360 v2

Ever wonder why Microsoft hasn't released an HDMI cable for the Xbox 360, or whether the AV port was really capable of digital out? Well, here's your answer: we landed pictures of what appears to be the second Xbox 360 -- the Xbox 360 v2, if you will -- codenamed Zephyr. (The original Xbox 360, if you recall, was codenamed Xenon.) The long rumored about and awaited update to the console won't just feature a new, cooler 65nm processor, it's also finally added an HDMI port for full digital 1080p pleasure, as well as a 120GB drive, just what the doctor ordered. The 120GB drive may or may not come bundled with the kit, we don't yet know, just as we also don't yet know how much a Zephyr 360 is going to run (we imagine it'll go for the same price as currently so they can keep up a little on their expanding margin). But our very kind Xbox insider seemed happy to let us know we'd be able to get them "soon."
In other news, my xbox360 will be miraculously breaking soon.
Fantastic. I will definately wait for this to come out to buy a 360. I will probably not get it mind (no HDTV, I can't imagine using the hard drive for anything other than saves + patches), but when this releases, the old version should drop in price.
dammit, i knew my impatience would let me down. The deal i got on a 360 was superb, so i can't complain, but if i'd known this was coming then i might've been able to hold out for a little longer. Oh well, still nice to know it's coming
We have heard of the cooler processor a while ago, I was waiting for this but Dead Rising made me buy a 360. What would be cool is if they also included HD-DVD built in.
The 65nm processor has been announced and known about for a while.
The HDMI output was expected.
It's the 120gb drive that surprises me. 120gb? I (and I'm sure everyone else) was totally expecting 60 or 80. 120gb... that's fucking generous.
Telling too, IMO: You don't need that kind of space for demos, XBLA games, and DLC. It totally points to them expanding and focusing more on downloadable licensed online HD movie/tv content.
That news piece is probably false. Not because step like this would be illogical, but because Chartered Semiconductor Manufacturing (Microsoft's CPU supplier) has pushed production of new 65 nm CPUs to early summer, maybe even later if we believe some sources. Of course Microsoft does have working prototype ready, but I seriously doubt something that like that would be leaked. Furthermore, all serial numbers have been brushed away. This makes me suspicious, as you can easily determine console's production line, day, revision and country from the serial. Anyone who is doing photoshop fake understands this.

I'm pretty skeptical about this. I'm curious, since when has anyone done a console update that added completely new functionality built-in such as the HDMI port? The 120GB harddrive being included in new systems is reasonable though, because no way in hell would I put up with having to buy a premium Xbox360 with 20gbs of space and THEN buy an additional 120gb harddrive.
man, I wish they'd implement some sort of upgrade path. I'd pay money to upgrade my 360 to v2 I think a lot of people would rather do that than commit fraud
This is like when a music album is released and everybody buys it because it's from some insanely popular artist and then two months after the initial release the record company goes 'hey loyal fans, here's a re-release with two new songs and a bonus DVD, now bend over and take it like a man'.
That's how I fucking feel now Microsoft, thank you so very much.
EDIT!: Motherfucker this is pissing me off SO MUCH. I sincerely hope this is not true because I can see this going so very very wrong for Microsoft..

An HDMI input and a cooler processor isn't going to fuck anyone.
Okay they won't do that but yay for this. Major console revisions are always a good thing.
Wait, what? There's a difference between revisions and adding components that expand functionality, which effectively makes two different versions of the console. Hence the gnashing of teeth whenever Nintendo refreshes its GBA/DS line. DS to DS Lite is a cosmetic/small revision. GBA to GBA color is a major update. Some games won't work on both consoles.
Also a processor that runs cooler. How is this stupid?
I'll preface this by saying that I'm totally not HD-savvy. But if certain 360s have HDMI ports and other ones don't, is outputting the HDMI signal something that has to be specifically coded into a game? I.e., will certain future games not work on the older 360 because it doesn't have HDMI capability?
I was looking to buy a 360 later this year/next year, so I'm terribly curious.

see, this i would be fine with, or some kind of trade-in rate. Rather than warranty-fraud like so many are suggesting, i'd consider trying to sell it on through eBay or something. Paid about £330 for it, i'd try and sell anything i could replace (console, hard-drive, controller, etc.) for about £250, depending on the price of the new model.

Well, first of all, this is still a rumor. We have seen photoshopped pictures of HDMI enabled 360s before, so take this with a grain of salt. Secondly, even if this is the case, do not, I repeat do not get pissed at Microsoft for re releasing a console. So far, they are the only company who hasn't. I had two different NESes, countless Gameboys, two DSes, and two PS2s. And if we're believing rumors today, a new PSP is en route as well. I'm sure the HDD will become a separate accessory. As for HDMI, my 360 is running perfectly through VGA on my TV.

Yeah, I'd only be irritated if it added functionality that splintered the userbase. Which I don't think it is, at least hearing you guys soothe me.
Is HDMI at the top of the video fidelity spectrum? Like, composite<S-video<component<VGA<HDMI? Or does it do something better and cooler than those other connections do? (I have no idea what I'm talking about.)
By your logic, the slim PS2 fucked ten of millions of people in a serious way.
The slim ps2 did not add functionality anywhere near to the extent of what 360v2 is going to add.
An HDMI port?
Are you kidding me? The slim PS2 came with a built in ethernet port. That's a lot more useful than any other video connection.
Yes, which you could also get as an add-on for the older model.
Point me to a site that sells add-on 360 HDMI ports please. These things matter to many people in these, the days of affordable full HD...

My 360 will get into a little accident sometime next summer.
Do all 360s have a one year warranty? Mine is about to fall down some stairs in my one floor house.
Yes.
If yours was made before Jan 2006, it's free.
Oh well.
Will have to think about this.

My Xbox360 will learn that gravity is indeed a harsh mistress.
Bah mine was made in march 2006. Gets the occsasional error from Dead Rising and crashed once or twice in Gears single player.

Oh man, did I do that right?
You still have a warranty until March of 2007 then.
It's an HDMI port and a bigger hard drive.

so, i bought my 360 on laucg day, can i get in on the accident shenanigens?

I might pick up the larger hard drive if I end up needing it.

No
I'm sorry what?

720p is the required resolution.
