Final Fantasy XIII, out 12/17 in Japan
Posts
I've got a few semesters under my belt. I shouldn't have much trouble with the menus, but I'm not counting on understanding the finer points of the plot without translations.
Maybe? There's definitely people that have it already and are streaming gameplay on places like Justin.tv and USTREAM.
We're getting it only 3 months after launch, which is a record for a Final Fantasy game.

I'd already heard a spoiler naming said boss and was hoping it was just made up, but I guess it likely isn't. Some of the ending has been spoiled as well, although who knows if it's legit or not.

It does
What do you want to know?
The battle system is a lot like FFX-2's. Combat is fast-paced, you move around the battlefield (which can influence how AOE spells hit), and the "Optima Change" system is essentially a group job-change system which can be used on-the-fly.
You setup your Optima ahead of time, so one might have three characters as "Attackers", and then in a second config have one Attacker, one Defender and one Healer. In battle, you can switch quickly between the two, with each role having different spells/abilities.
You learn new abilities and get stat increases via the Crystalium/Crystarium system which is like the Sphere Grid. You earn CP in battle which are spent to move around the grid. Each node carries an ability or a stat increase, and you get to each one by way spending CP to move along the lines between them.
So, if you have a line between where you are an "HP + 70", and that line takes 60 CP to move along, you can start moving along it as soon as you have any CP...but you need to spend all 60 to get to the next node and activate it. Moving back to previous nodes costs nothing (unlike the sphere grid).
Each "role" has its' own set of lines/nodes and is leveled independently.
I'm not yet entirely certain how they level, but I got the impression it comes with hitting points in the story, rather than grinding.
Also, are there any kind of limit breaks at all?
Nope, you only control one character in battle.
I haven't heard anything about limit breaks, but I believe the summons have some big attack each that can be used in Driving Mode.
Regardless, it sounds nice that you're able to switch AI/jobs on the fly during combat.
I haven't seen anything about how the AI works, so I assume it just runs things on its own. It seems to be reasonably smart about popping off heals quickly when tasked as a healer. Healing is pretty fast since you can do a simple cure spell with a single slice of the ATB bar.

You sold me right there.

There's a joke here.
With all that hotness.
And them being ice element.
But I've been puking and shitting my innards out the past few days and it's just not coming to me.

You beat it yet? Need to hurry before the price collapses! :P
I haven't seen any yet, no. All the streams I've found are being done by Japanese people. There was one entertaining dude who kept calling Sazh "Afuro".
I'll pop the game in a bit later tonight, but I really don't want to hear any spoilers. I've deliberately stayed away from all information about this game.
The only good thing about FFX-2
Second, the battle system is pretty cool overall. Takes a little getting used to and has some interesting stuff in it.
Um... the only complaint I have so far? The traditional FF Battle theme is gone
Oh, and there's already a character I wanna throw off a goddamn cliff >.<
Anything specific you guys wanna know?
I want to know about the magic system. I haven't seen much except for the characters throwing glowing frisbees. Do you still have spell tiers and all that?
FF12 was a major letdown in all respects re: the story/characters, IMO.
hottoq
Seriously, though. One character I want to slaughter already because he's a whiny bitch.
Is that character Hope?
