Windows OS Installation

I need some help guys. I currently run Windows XP SP3 on my home computer. I have my one HDD partitioned into 5 different drives - C, D, E, F, and G. I only use C for my windows OS. I recently bought a Windows 7 student edition upgrade. Can I just format my C drive and then install Windows 7 on to it and still have my other media untouched. Its mostly music, pdfs, and movies on the other drives. I have some games installed, but im pretty sure I will need to reinstall those, so the registry acknowledges them again.

Any help on the matter would be most appreciated!

I cant remember how robust the drive utility on the Win7 installer is, but you could probably manage this. What are you using your other partitions for? If one is running Linux it might be safer to use a Linux drive utility, as they are usually better than the one supplied with Windows.

Yeah, the installer lets you format, delete and create partitions just fine. Any installed program you'd have to reinstall of course. You'll need a much larger partition for 7 than you had for XP though, I could get away with 10 gigs when I had XP, but for 7 I have a 30 gig partition, since the OS takes up around 8 itself.

One is for my applications, one is for music, and the other is games/movies
