DVD Player issue

The other day I went out and saw that DVD players were on special in my local mall. The DVD I picked wasn't a brand I had heard of before but since it was only $50 I might as well just get one to keep in my room. I manage to connect all of it correctly to my TV but as soon as I put it on the channel the screen would show whatever DVD I was watching but the colours would flicker between black and white and colour.

I thought it was the DVD player so I took it back to the store and got a replacement. Yet again did I have the same problem. I tried another set of cables I had laying around just incase that was the problem. Nope, still not fixed. I then decided to try it on the TV in the lounge room and it worked perfectly.

Now my TV is only about two years old and the previous DVD player I owned had worked fine on the TV and it was at least 4 years old and it also was a no name brand. I dont see why the TV would be a problem but that seems the case. I dont really feel the need to buy a brand new TV to just use a cheap DVD player.

Can anyone suggest anything I should try to do to get this thing to work ? Or do I simply have to go out and buy myself a new DVD player and hope it works with my TV ? Thanks to anyone who is able to help me with this problem.

I would borrow a friend or neigbors DVD player to see if it works correctly on your TV. If so, I'd just swap yours out for a different model.

If it makes you feel any better Target sells a $19.99 DVD Player.

I know this is dumb but I did end up lossing the reciept after I got a replacement so I cant really swap it for a different model. However, I will try out someone elses DVD player to see if it works.

Also while the deal you have linked is pretty good. I live in Australia so it doesnt really apply to me. Thanks anyway for your input :).

As a Target employee, TruTech blows. Never, ever ever consider them a viable option.

Uh, this sounds like MacroVision protection kicking in, like when you try to attach a player to the TV through the VCR.

That's what I was about to say. Make sure the DVD player is connected directly to the television and not passing through any other devices first.

The DVD player is connected directly to the TV. I dont know if a picture will help but here is one anyway.

I know it says No Disc, but even when you play a movie or anything it shows the movie but the picture isnt in full colour and has those bars running through it.
