Fix Elki's Computer, Receive Mod Favors (solved; rewards will issue shortly)
my computer is FUCKING UP
i must've contracted the most annoying trojan ever
i can get on the internets just fine. firefox or explorer
i can go to any website
but if i click on any link i get redirected to some random advertisement
it's drving me bananas. it even does it if i right click on anything
mcafee scanning does NOTHING!
haha, mcafee! what a fucker! let's all laugh at him, ho ho ho. What did you do, elkamil, click on an advertisement to win a free playstation three. there are no free playstation 3s elki. the fact that three and free rhyme makes no difference.
he asked me to make this for him because apparently he is unable to do it himself and there are no other computers in a 250 mile radius.
I have to go to work now. I'll update the OP with more relevant information as he conveys it to me. or maybe he can pester another mod to edit my post. I don't know.
The last computer I saw this happen to, I swear it was a rootkit. I ran both Malware Bytes and Spybot in safe mode and went through msconfig and the registry myself, tried different user accounts, looked at the hosts file, reset all internet settings in both IE and Firefox, nothing. Always redirected to random internet sites.
Basically it's very possible that there's nothing you can do and you'll want to reload your computer. I recommend backing everything up as soon as possible even if you decide not to reload.
But yes, start with Malware Bytes and Spybot Search & Destroy. It's also possible that they'll find the problem and fix it, but another undetected malware will redownload the redirector again. Keep a close eye on it even when you think you've got it clean.
Everything malwarebytes doesn't get, Superantispyware will catch. I had this exact same problem on one of our work computers, and a combination of those two followed by an AVG scan left me perfectly clean.
